    Just what IS cottage cheese?

Just added cottage cheese to my diet, to my surprise the second ingredient is whey protein concentrate, first ingredient skim milk. What exactly is this gooey, alien, stuff made of?

Congealed protein shake maybe. Mmm, but seriously what?

I believe its the state in which milk turns to cheese but not yet there if that makes any sense.

All I know is that at first I despised it and now i'm eating close to a tub a day.

Cottage cheese is a cheese curd product with a mild flavor. It is drained, but not pressed so some whey remains. The curd is usually washed to remove acidity giving sweet curd cheese. It is not aged or colored. Different styles of cottage cheese are made from milks with different fat levels and in small curd or large curd preparations. Cottage cheese which is pressed becomes hoop cheese, farmer cheese, pot cheese or queso blanco.
Curd is a dairy product obtained by curdling (coagulating) milk with rennet or an edible acidic substance such as lemon juice or vinegar and then draining off the liquid portion (called whey). The increased acidity causes the milk proteins (casein) to tangle into solid masses, or "curds". [/b]
So basically it's just the protein from milk that has been turned into a solid.

get the fruited kind, its more expensive but it makes eating it a lot easier

Cottage cheese is basically pure casein, most of the whey is left in the supernatant during production. Fat-free cottage cheese contains a huge amount of protein, no cabs, and no fat, so its great for an overnight or daytime, whenever you can't get to food for more than a few hours at a time.

cottage cheese is without doubt one of the most convenient and cheapest ways to increase protein in one's diet. however, cottage cheese initially seems disgusting and is difficult to choke down. after getting used to it, i cant say a day goes by where i haven't had a serving. great protein source, every young bb should be downing this stuff!

I wasn't too impressed with cottage cheese at first. Then I swapped from the generic brand. I tried breakstone(owned by kraft i think), and it really tastes a million times better. Just eat it with a little yogurt before bed, mmm.
