    Lump on Back From Squats...?

Anybody experience this? Over the years I've been doing squats and after the workout the area where the bar rests really swells up. There's now like a permanent layer of tissue or something that forms a small hump. I've tried adjusting the positioning on my back, doesn't work... I've been using cushions and towels which makes it better.... but has anyone else experienced this and know what's going on?

First off you got an alien growing there..lol Second, go see a doctor, tomorrow!. Is this permanent, have you had it for say 5 months? Does it hurt when it is pressed or rubbed? Man I have never seen this from squats, i've seen stretch marks of sorts, but this looks like actual muscle damage.

yeah that can't be healthy, i'd assume it could be a build up of muscle/cartlidge to try and compensate for the added stress the squats are putting on that part of your body, by no means normal. and i am not a doctor but i'd get it checked out just in case its more serious than you think!

Why didn't you go see a doctor already?

What suprises me is that you need to post a pic of your huge hump the size of a baseball on a bodybuilding forum asking for medical advice, before going to a doctor. And to top it off you tried to "work around" this hump for by squatting the bar on different positions before seeking medical attention. Over the past few years huh? Wow.

I have done truckloads of squats and even 800-900 pound lockouts wih regularity and have NEVER experienced anything like that. I never use the manta or anything else for padding. You need to be checked out.

Wanted to add....In all the peopleI have met or seen at powerlifting competitions, and I attend mainly big national meets so I see a BUNCH of people, I have NEVER seen this.

tis simple! African tribes lift and carry large weights on their backs to grow a hump,as a sign of strength you are doing a sorta similar thing, except you have a little hump.

    Probably a cyst

This is probably a fatty cyst and will not go away unless removed. It will only grow bigger and more uncomfortable. It's very minor surgery, probably done in the doctor's office. Most likely not malignant. Do a search on google for cyst and/or fatty cyst. I found one site with a video of the removal procedure, a very simple one. Good luck! It should go well for you.

    Update

Hey guys, I'm taking all your advice and going to see the Doc, I made an appointment for next week. Sometimes I need a little persuasion to seek medical advice.... maybe he'll recommend me for front squats instead

    thanks

What did the chiropractor end up saying? I spoke with a doctor about mine recently and he said lipoma that can be removed through surgery
