Sidelined by Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

I havenít lifted in almost three weeks and havenít consumed much protein either. I started having a constant feeling of being full from eating just a small amount along with major bloating, cramps, and tiredness. Itís just now starting to get better and the doctor said I probably had irritable bowel syndrome which he said could occur in bouts that last anywhere from a few days to several weeks at a time. Iíve lost a good bit of muscle from going from eating 3000+ calories per day down to 1000 or less for those weeks and eating a lot of bland foods with minimal protein, carb, fats, etc.

Iím wondering if anyone else has had this or something similar and how you dealt with it? Iím thinking Iíll try to go ahead and gradually increase my protein intake now. I started taking acidophillus and eating more yogurt and Iíll probably add digestive enzymes and FOS as supplements.

I have had ulcerative colitis since I was 14 and have learned to deal with it. What it comes down to is figuring out what you can and cannot eat and or drink. To control my colitis, I stick to bland foods and avoid milk and excessive carbonation. Bland foods as in chicken, tuna, hamburger, oatmeal, rice, veggies, and fruits. The things you should be eating anyways. I can do yogurt and cottage cheese but milk or anything larger than a soft serve ice cream cone will send me running to the bathroom.

Once again, it just comes down to figuring out what you can, and can't put into your body. Hope this helps...
