Montana definitely has to be number one.

Brady should be top 5 once he retires. He's probably going to have 4 or 5 rings.

I didnt know it only took 1 QB to win a Super Bowl. The other 52 players must be figments of my imagination. Football is too much of a team sport to base all time ranks on rings. No player ever has won a Super bowl by himself. Every Super Bowl winning team has had other great players OR good players who turned in good enough performances to win.

I've said this on a bunch of other threads but QB's get FAR too much credit for success AND far too much blame for TEAM failure. Guys like Archie Manning who never had a team to win with will always rank ahead of good QB's who have been in better situations to win with.

Elway, Montana, Marino, Unitas, Graham --- The order isn't important but those are my top 5 in my opinion.

    16 he holds?

the reason he didnt get any rings, is.....wel they did go to the superbowl, and lost......but miami never had such a good defense AT ALL. And thier running game was crap too. Defenses of other teams sepecificalyl tried to figure a way to stop him, but couldnt. By play, not rings he was one of the best, if not, the best QB

    16 he holds?

the reason he didnt get any rings, is.....wel they did go to the superbowl, and lost......but miami never had such a good defense AT ALL. And thier running game was crap too. Defenses of other teams sepecificalyl tried to figure a way to stop him, but couldnt. By play, not rings he was one of the best, if not, the best QB

i can see your argument but i can also see where the other guy is coming from. being a quarterback is about leading your team to that one game called the superbowl and winning it, not breaking records.

he is leading. But he cant do much on defense can he, when hes on the sideline.

And farve will definately be up there. He is about to break another marino record, and also could break the 61k passing yard record too.

I disagree. While winning a super bowl is important,it can't be the reason why Marino is not in the top 5. Winning a superbowl takes an entire team. Take Elway for example. as great as he was,he couldn't win the bowl until they had some good recievers and terrell davis. I remember watching the broncos play the superbowl against the niners. Elway had people like Ricky Nattiel and Sammy Winder while montana was throwing to Rice and taylor and handing off to craig. The logic of,you have to win a superbowl to be considered great, doesn't seem right. QB's like Dilfer,Rypien,Johnson,Plunkett, etc are no where near QB's like Marino,Kelly,or Moon.

true. not really anyone good now. donald driver? if farve gets another 3 or 4k passing yard season, he might be close to beating marinos passing yards record(career) farve is still playing, i was just trying to put up old retired players. But it wouldnt suprise me if he becomes #1 sometime.

During his Glory years, Favre had a **** load of talented receivers, no Jerry Rice but still...

    Sterling Sharpe
    Mark Chmura
    Antonio Freeman
    Andre Rison
    Bubba Franks
Robert Brooks (he had some awesome years)

EDIT - Keith Jackson as well.

It takes a complete effort for any great QB to accomplish what teh great ones accomplish. Just sayin...

If I had to win one game; I would pick Joe Montana or Tom Brady as the starter. Hands down.

Favre had sharpe for like 2 seasons, brooks for 4, rison for a half a season. Freeman was **** after he left green bay. Franks is kind of terrible... A lot of guys like bill shroeder did well with the packers and then left and sucked... kinda shows that it was favre who made them good.
