hi shawn, in your opinion do you think new bodybuilders who are just starting out should mess with periodisation/pyramiding, or do you think everyone should have a year of doing normal 3 sets, 6-10 reps each muscle under them before starting to switch it up and experimenting?
what worked for you when you began.

Hi Shawn
Hi Shawn, that's great to be able to speak you on this forum,
to have the advices of pros will be a big help for many young
bodybuilders. I have a question for you, I will make
competition this year, peoples who train with me think
that there is a large imbalance between my side delts and my traps,
as my shoulders are narrow, my delts appear under
developed, I do not do many shrugs, but do you think that basics such as deadlifts or barbells rows continue to make my traps growing, and in your opinion how to reduce this imbalance and what is the best way to enlarge my side delts? Thank you in advance Shawn
and still welcome on the forum
Kareem.

I'm just wondering but you've always fought for bodybuilders to get more pay from competitions and some sort of minimum salary (or so i've read) but could you express your points on this directly? Also a question I have is how badly are the pro's gettting underappreciated(Does it run into the thousands, millions, tens of millions)?

Yo Welcome to the board!!! Its great to have you here
I got a quick question whats going on with you and your position as pros representative? There was some rumours going around the web (pretty standard nowdays) that the pros werent happy with you as athletes rep."The mind is the limit. As long as the mind can envision the fact that you can do something, you can do it, as long as you really believe 100 percent."

Thanks guys for the warm welcome!
To answer a few of your questions:
1) The guys at max Muscle Stores around the country are great and I enjoy making appearances on behalf of the Owner, Joe Wells and President, Sean green, friends of mine from way back!
2) I dont do Powerlifting per/se. I like heavy wts but for reps of not less than 8. I go by feel but it is hard to feel light weights, so I try not to use them for anything except warm-ups.
3) My opinion of the new guys is that, they aren't so "NEW." I mean most of them are at least 30 and older. They have years of training experience but make rookie mistakes when it comes to peaking.
4) Beginning training is no differnet than advanced, except MENTALLY.
Lifting weights is lifting weights, it is when your mind control takes over that makes a diffenrence in progress. Some guy smake excuses for not going all out because they are new at training, while others are so hungry they sell out EVERY workout and the results are self evident!
5) Shrugs and Upright Rows, as well as Deadlifts are all beneficial for shoulder development. Sometimes Genetics prevent certain degrees of development but I'd hit them harder if I were you!
6) Certainly the athletes are short changed when it comes to Pay Roll and our sports income derived off the backs of our athletes. As it relates to the Supplement industry, which is a Billion Dollar industry, we'd be hard pressed to find 1 Millionaire BBer? Do the math, as long as we are divided and keep to ourselves regarding financial advancement for All, we will have a couple guys making a few nickels and dimes but even fewer making Dollars and Cents!
7) As for Athlete Rep, sure there are some knuckleheads out there that hold a Pro card and fall under my representation but only a couple have even expressed written, telephonic or electronic communication with me that woud make an ounce of advancement for our sport? In fact, it has cost me alot of money placing phone calls, photo copying letters, time from my family, dealing with promoters, fighting for athletes, Etc.
It is a position not like that of a President but as Spokesman. Most of the guys dont understand that I control NOTHING! I can formally put in writing issues the federation will address on their time, guaranteeing nothing to me personally or those I represent. Beggining to see how thankless this position is.
The beginning of the end are the "Have's" and the have Nots. Division creates Caos, which benefits the officials & promoters not the athletes because most are too self absorbed to see that.
8) I dont make Olympia Predictions anymore because they are too predicatable! Hello?
9) The Challenge rule is something I am taking a "wait and see" approach to but I welcome new ideas, as we are long over due!
Now if only we could get NEW Judges!
10) The Vaccum Pose is a lost pose that for various reasons, we hardly ever see any more with the emphasis being placed on Mass, we may never see it again?
11) I have no plans for DVD but if something comes my way it will be made on DVD Format.
Enjoy the weekend and God bless!

Hey shawn Im a big fan because Im a somewhat short bodybuilder. I have a few questions on dieting and your waist.
Are you genetically blessed with a small waist and fast metabolism like dexter?
How far away from you contest weight would you drift in the offseason? I'm looking to kind of just stay lean year round now (at around 9%).
Im incorporating daily cardio to keep my bodyfat down. What do you recommend? Long bouts of low intensity cardio twice a day or one all out session in the morning?
Thanks bro.If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got...

I dont measure genetics. I train hard and diet even harder. The result is a Small waist and fast metabolism. it doesn't make my job any easier having been born with a certain shape. the work still has to be done in the gym and later in the kitchen.
Out,

Like many Pro athletes, I was too caught up in "Self Belief" to give ALL the thanks and Praise to Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. On a happy note, He resides in me in all I do now, as I belive He was always there waiting to be Fron and Center in my life.
Adding size slowly and gradually is the best way period.
