    RIP Dodge Challenger, Charger

Dodge will discontinue its Challenger and Charger muscle cars next year

Dodge will discontinue its gas-powered Challenger and Charger muscle cars at the end of next year, as the brand transitions to electric vehicles.

Since being resurrected in the mid- to late 2000s, the Charger and Challenger have been stalwarts for Dodge and popular vehicles for a new generation of gearheads.

But the cars have also been part of a fuel economy and emissions problem for Stellantis, formerly Fiat Chrysler.

Sad to see as a long time Mopar guy two of my fav cars. Surprised they wont offer some form of v6 turbo. Ram will still have multiple engine options although I guess they have to hit that stupid % of whatever MPG cars.

Very tempted to get rid of my 2020 Jeep SRT, and pick up a Trackhawk. But may also just end up keeping the SRT forever.

I'm poverty as ****, so I'll probably never get my hands on one. From what I hear though, the 5.7 is stout and can run a lot of boost on stock internals. I may go that route, though I'll need another $15k.

Government is pressuring them and only giving handouts to those who are pushing EV (ford and chevy atm). Government is anti-Elon so they want the big 3 to get on board.

I think you are both correct. These cars do sell well but they also do a ton of fleet business, which isn't really good for residual values or brand image. The actual Hellcat sales are very very small. It is only profitable because Chrysler hasn't updated the platform in years. Even though these performance cars generate money, it costs Chrysler a lot of money too because they need buy EV credits to make up for it. They currently sell very few cars that generates credits on their own. If FCA wasn't so late to the game, these cars could have been kept around much longer. If they had cars that could generate EV credits, it would have kept these cars around longer. There is government pressure, of course, but these cars are sold not only in the USA, but other markets as well, where they need to comply with local regulations. It isn't as cut and dry....It shouldn't be a surprise these are going away either as the car is very dated.

Just LOL at buying anything from Chrysler/Fiat.

Know a couple who just had their 2022 Grand Wagoneer bought back by Chrysler for full price under the Lemon Law.

It is cut and dry. Any government punishing auto manufacturers over emissions but ignoring China and India is lying to you. It's not about emissions, it's about money and lining the next CEO's pocket. And of course congress wants their stake of whatever insider trading they can.

We make a huge stink over emissions but I don't see the U.S. lining up to build Nuclear plants. Every policy is about making someone rich. Period.

It's all coming down to the big battery industry, which is bound to become a real focus point for future environmental issues, especially considering how aggressive the MSM and government has been about shoving all the negatives of that industry under a rug. Eventually the mess they create is going to be too big to ignore.
