Afternoon Fellas, I’ll spare you a novel of a back story; there isn't much of one anyway. I’m 47, havent lifted seriously in a couple years, life got in the way. I dont have any conditions, or major afflictions other then a temperamental knee and a tight lower back. In 2010 at my best I was 199lbs 6% body fat @ 5’9; lifting with a partner. Time goes on and I’m a little shorter now and only weigh maybe 10lbs less unfortunately. Anyway I’ve been on a successful but slow comeback for the last two weeks with a couple bike rides a week, and 5 days of medium intensity circuit training. Statement/question: my biggest challenge even when I was making great gains was getting that initial pump which I think is paramount both mentally and physically to prosperous workouts for me anyway. Question is “for those of you who DO use supplements”; what are some of your favorite pump/pre workouts?
I’ve used all kinda of stuff over the years, some amazing, some just a facilitator to an expedited trip to the toilet… I dont do well with anything “thermo”. I’m trying to workout early in the am which isnt my bodies ideal time but I find at 47 if I wait till later in the day I just dont have the gas; at least while this early in the comeback. So, maybe something thats not stim free would be more what I need.
What are your favorites currently and why? Appreciate the feedback, thanks for the read!
A pump isn’t really significant in gauging the success of your workout…and a pump gets much harder to obtain as you get both older AND accustom to training. Also, you’ll have to do pump style training (higher reps) to achieve a pump.
…That said, your best bet is Citrulline, 6G (+)…here’s the thing…many preworkouts include a proper dose, but the problem is it takes about an hour (1-2 hours for me) to actually get into your system and have ANY effect on your pumps while working out. Most pre-workouts are designed to be taken 15-30 minutes before a workout, which is why so many people use a pre with Citrulline and say it has NO effect on pumps….so try supplementing with Citrulline separate, and earlier, than whatever pre (or not) you chose.
