    Dumb Question... Meat macros

Can someone please explain meat macros to me?
For instance, how can ground turkey be labeled 85/15, but when you look at the nutrition facts it has 20g of protein and 17g of fat? That math just doesn't add up. When I do the math it's actually 46% fat and 54% protein. Beef has the same issue, but contains a larger percentage coming from protein.

    What am I missing here?

The ratio on the label refers to the actual volume of food, not caloric content. There is water in the combination which likely accounts for most of the difference, since it has mass but no caloric content.

That makes so much sense. Thank you a lot, it was driving me crazy. I searched online but couldn't seem to narrow the keywords down to get an answer.

You bet. Always annoying when you get hung up on a question and can't move on to something else in your mind until you figure it out.

The numbers can vary by up to 20% by FDA standards. I did a lipid extraction from ground beef via normal cooking methods and can confirm that.
