6ft3 190 Lbs Need Advice For Good, Productive Progress
Good morning, and thank you for welcoming me to this community. I am 27 years old, and have been working out now for a month with a trainer 3 times a week. I have always struggled to gain weight, but now that I am on a strict high calorie diet (I have been eating between 3500-3700 calories every day) I have gone from 183 to 191 in just under one month. The main concern I have is the belly fat that I always had, even as a relatively thin guy. The rest of my body is just long and not muscular to be honest, I want to have a balanced frame altogether. I have very long arms and longer legs. What should I be focusing on diet wise? If I am working out 3 times a week lifting heavy, should I continue bulking with the belly fat I have (the pictures might not show a lot of belly fat, but that's because im sucking in, it's definitely there lol) or should I try cutting to lose the belly fat while keeping protein intake high? Please help, as I am pretty confused on how to move forward. Pictures are below. 1st is before, 2nd is after over one month.
P.S. I know 1 month is nothing, I am just looking for the proper avenue to keep this going over the next 8-12 months.
I think a lot of guys have this impression that they have to go way over the top to "force" their body to gain weight. But it's not true and you can still gain too much fat just like anyone else. You should only run a surplus which just enough to gain maybe 1 or 2lbs a month.
Also, 183 wasn't exactly skinny to start with, you can probably gain muscle without even being in a surplus at this point.
So yes, you could do a short term diet to get rid of some of the accumulated fat. See the "basics" sticky thread at the top of the page in the Fat Loss forum
