What Foods/Drinks make you feel and perform well?

As I get older (pushing 30) I've noticed that there are some foods that although they taste good, they absolutely wreck my insides for the next few days (feeling sick, bloated, twisted stomach) - which makes my performance (mental and physical) poorer than usual.

I don't know how to describe it, but I think they are processed/refined foods and in terms of drinks soda and anything high sugar.

I'm on the fence about coffee, because I like the caffeine element, but too much of it can cause acid reflux.

I've also noticed that I really, really dislike alcohol now (especially drinking a lot of it), but that will ruin my stomach for a few days, hangovers are worse and I will nearly always cheat on my diet.

    In terms of things that make me feel good;

    1) Fruits (but portions limited somewhat because of sugars)
    2) Varied and high volume of vegetables
    3) Varied protein sources. Fish, white meat and red meat.
    4) Good fat sources (fatty fish, mackerel, salmon, avocado)
    5) Carb sources : Potato (sweet and white), brown rice seems better than white rice not sure why, oatmeal

Is there anything else I'm missing to improve overall gut health / wellbeing / performance? Or is there anything I should definitely be aiming to include or exclude?

I've notice green tea can help with digestion in the morning and keeping sugars low makes my energy levels more stable throughout the day/evening.

High water intake too (around 4 litres a day)

    Thanks!

    Pasta

With the curious exception of today on a programmed bench rep scheme, I almost always find that when I've had pasta the previous day or some number of hours before training on the current one, I have a wellspring of energy. Maybe it's the ample protein along with the density of carbs? Dunno.

Fish, rice, chicken breast and potato area also conscious positive correlates to good workouts.

Sometimes I overeat crap in the name of training well soon thereafter, but unfortunately that seldom works out as intended and I'm coming to see as simply an excuse to indulge said junk food.

Sometimes it's not about what to eat, it's about what not to eat.

And it sounds like you have discovered some of the things that make you feel bad; very good. Half the battle is recognizing that certain foods don't work well with you.

Bourbon whiskey makes my nose bleed. I had a Super Bowl party and a copious amount of bourbon whiskey was involved. After the game I boxed with a D3 college linebacker whose team would have made it to the national championship game if they would have won their last game. The boxing event ended rather quickly and I had a bloody nose.
