    Gaining too Much Fat on a Bulk WITH a Trainer....advice please

    I need some advice...

    I have always been lean, and I lost some muscle mass during the pandemic when gyms were closed, so I enlisted the help of a trainer to help my muscle back.

    Anyway, I started off lean and at 17% body fat, 118 lbs. and 5'7". I've seen the man for a month, and I did gain around 1.5 lbs of muscle, but now, I feel like I'm just gaining body fat. Initially, I was eating around 1,700 calories a day with him, but he kept telling me to bump it up to 2,000-2,100, and now my body fat is at2o%. Worse yet, my muscle mass is where it was a month ago, but my body fat is higher. I've had it texted every week.

    What should I do?

    You’re barely eating over 2000 calories for a single month and you’re worried about becoming fat when you’re like 120lb?

    I have to ask, do you have known issues with body image / eating ?

    I’m confused, you said you gained 1.5 pounds of muscle in the past month but then you say your muscle mass is the same. how much total weight have you gained in the past month?
    A dock in harbor is safe, and thats what docks are built for.

    Oh. So, I gained it within the first three weeks, but no increases since then

    No, but I DO feel like I've developed some cellulite, which is new to me.

    There is no way to know if your body fat went up 17% to 20%

    Unless you get a very expensive test done in a lab

    You just won’t know.

    Calipers are garbage
    Scales that read body fat are garbage
    Body scans at the gym are garbage
    Tape measuring with some fancy math equations are garbage

    Your eating right at maintenance, I have a hard time believing the cellulite and fat you think you put on isn’t just in your head

    If your goal was to gain muscle and strength while starting to train, you would have to eat more than you were maintaining less muscle and not training

    Have you gained any strength?
    How much weight did you gain per week? .5lbs?

    5-7 and 118. You most likely NEED a bit more fat that’s why he bumped your calories up a bit. That may be a temporary bump until your fat amount gets to a slightly higher percentage
