    Aging

    I'll bet that few guys will remember me. I'l now 85 and experiencing the deterioation of old age! Still pretty strong with hard muscles. It's just that they have shrunk and I'm very wrinkled now.

    I remember you. Repped for still lifting weights.
    Now there are short and simple exercises which tire the body rapidly, and so save our time; and time is something of which we ought to keep strict account. These exercises are running, brandishing weights, and jumping…. Select for practice any one of these, and you will find it plain and easy. But whatever you do, come back soon from body to mind.

    I used to write about sarcopenia, or the loss of muscle tissue over time, even starting at age 40. Well in the last three years, I've lost 3" in my arms! Part of that is due to not being able to visit the gym for a year and a half. So at this point, I suspect I'll never get it back.
    No effort is too little if done with purpose.

    What else would you say contributed to losing 3" off your arms in three years Piper? Were you ill? When did you really feel the decline in muscle mass in spite of working out regularly and proper nutrition? How are you feeling otherwise? Good to hear you're still plugging' away.

    First, I incorrectly said 3 inches when it's 2 inches. For the last year and a half I have not been able to go to the gym, as I was earlier. I do some simple exercises at home, but they do not challenge me much. And I was injured just before the Covid hit us. And, of course, the sarcopenia has eaten up some muscle fiber. So, at 85, I am somewhat fit and glad of that.

    I'm still doing it at 71 and continued strength gains are still noticeable on a week-to-week basis. Hypertrophy and lean mass improvement is another story...totally non-existent. No unwanted side-effects or issues so far.

    Great to meet you! I started lifting about a year ago. (During COVID the neighborhood gym opened up before the neighborhood bar so I joined). I'm a decade younger than you but I'll bet that I look a full decade older than you! (This getting old stuff ain't for kids :-)
