Any speed athletes here? Working on sprints, energy, nutrition.

I might be a bit out of place here as I am not too concerned about "getting my gains" regarding size, no competitions to go to, or any women to impress. But I am getting back to work with primary goals of gaining strength, protection from injury, and seeing how far I am still push my speed. I was a record holding sprinter and tailback. General specs today are 6ft and 189#. I have some body comp issue to deal with as my tailback weight was 192# with less fat on me. I gave it up at the college level because I realized some were committed to the level of needles and that was the only way I would stay competitive. I needed to be over 200.

I primarily focus on HIIT sprinting in which I usually do about 10-15 50M buildup sprints. Sometimes I short cycle that for more cardio work but usually I monitor my heart rate and kick it again once I feel recovered. Being experienced with this, I sort of let my body tell me. I usually run at 100% but sometimes pull back to about 85% and throw some 100M in there.

I used to play this "cardio and weight days" game but I think cardio was hurting my goals and I have always been a speed/power guy, not an endurance guy. They tried me in a 400M ONE time and that was it.

I have not lifted hard for several months but will be bringing that back in soon.

My diet includes mostly a carnivore diet. Meat, fish, eggs, cheese, yogurt, etc. I throw some carbs in but in moderation, and I think that is screwing with me. A few days ago I ran sprints and I felt very taxed. I even shut down early. I could tell there was nothing in the tank. However, I hit 2 bananas 30min before sprinting 2 days ago and I could tell I had more fuel.

I don't want to push to extremes with "loading" before I run, but curious if anyone else sprints and what your diet looks like? What I am well aware of is my muscles are NOT toasted at the end of my work, but my energy depletes. Technically I could take an hour break and do it all over again! So I need to home in on this energy crisis.

I have not hit Creatine in many months but intended to give that a go, but I don't want to throw too many variables as I try to source this energy issue. Judging by my easy recovery and lack of pain, I would say I have what I need for fats and proteins, but also probably leaving too much performance on the table.
