    First six months.

I know I've posted most of this a few times, but just wanted to recap here.

I've been athletic my whole life and often used it as an excuse to eat/drink however I wanted to, and was never consistent with exercise.
I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, etc.
I also had a history of a fractured back, knee surgeries, cancer - more excuses for not changing.

I decided I wanted to make some changes in my overall health as I was approaching my 50th birthday (back in Sept/Oct - my birthday was last week), as well as compete in powerlifting which I'd always wanted to do.
My buddy told me to just sign up for a meet which I did and enjoyed the meet tremendously. It amped up the motivation and I started truly paying attention to what I ate every day as well as being much more intentional/consistent with weight training.

Powerlifting continues to motivate me to maximize my (old man) potential and looking and feeling good is very reinforcing!

I just got back from a trip with my friends and wife to the Dominican Republic and enjoyed it so much more because I felt good about myself.
I had my 50yo physical this week and my blood pressure is vastly better, cholesterol much improved (still a little way to go), and apnea is better too. My doc said I was in fantastic shape and I said 'just wait until next year!'
It has been a fantastic, rewarding journey so far and I look forward to continuing for the next few decades!
One can easily say - I wish I'd done this years ago.
Well, you can't do that - but you can START today!
I hope others who have struggled can find motivation and a plan... and can stick to it! I hope those of you who have provided inspiration for the rest of us keep it up.
Thanks brothers and sisters for being part of this great community.

The key point here wasn't how you look but this statement "I felt good about myself". Nothing I've seen replaces that feeling.

Major props man, not many here will post progress pics, but to me they speak volumes not only in the effort you are putting in, but just the sheer motivation and inspiration it can give others to continue with their journey. Sometimes we lose our way (I know I do) and we have to kick ourselves back into it.

Aside from the muscle and the strength training brings you, it also brings you mental stability and overall health. I just did my physical a week ago and man my bloodwork came back on point and the doc said I am in 100% excellent health and I can only attribute that to my training.

So props to you man and here is to continue good health and training and looking forward to more progress pics!!

Agree - staying the course can really be tough! In my profession I'm about helping others make changes - bout time I made these changes myself! I know the research is that 50% who attempt to make real life changes have quit before 6 months, which is why I posted my update. Here's to many more months of keeping at it!

Since BH had mentioned wanting to get a tattoo, adding a pic of mine here. I love the tat, regret it being on my back since I never get to see it!
As far as body work goes I've always wanted to have a scarification - in PNG where I grew up locals often utilized intentional scarring mixed with tattoos which always fascinated me.
I almost got one done when I was living in Germany a few years ago but the artist missed the convention he was going to do it at.
If I ever do get one (very tough to find skilled/safe artists), it will be a piece on my lower left leg, and would combine elements of my PNG experience from childhood and Ute designs from my father's tribe in the US.

Here is an article with some examples: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=...AAAAAdAAAAABAD
I know that's pretty niche/unusual, but scars have always fascinated me - the stories they tell and the way they appear.

Doctor, what does your eating plan look like for such an amazing 6 months transformation? Total calories? Macros?

Excellent Stuff, fantastic progress (but please stop because you'll start making some of us look bad )
Faith in Jesus first and faith in squats second.
Then other details will start to slot themselves into place.

I ate pretty much what I wanted for 49.5 years prior to really making the current changes. That meant way too much fatty foods, sugars, processed foods, carbs, the whole 9.
Starting November I got a calorie counter and stuck to what it said (I think it was 2300 calories for a target weight of 200 from nearly 220). I put everything in it - especially when I didn't want to! :P I focused on trying to get to 1.5-2g protein per lb BW per day - doing that means I cut way down on crap food and balanced carbs and proteins. Lots of chicken of course. I dislike fish very much so that makes it a little rough, but I still have options. The only supps I do are creatine, whey protein, and multivitamin. Really, sticking to the plan is the main thing. It's not too bad. I can usually stick within the calorie goals and still 'cheat' a little (once in a while a whiskey or a 1/2 cup of ice cream) - but within reason.

Thanks Tom-san! I am blessed with some good genetics no doubt - and truly thankful. I also tend to obsess once I really decide to do something. I do hope that posting here - and sharing with my RL friends - helps others as well!
