    The great oatmilk shortage fiasco

As we all know, the best drink at Starbucks right now is by far the Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso. Ever since it came out i am jonesing for it each day. However, due to the nationwide oatmilk shortage, they are unable to make this more times than they can in my neck of the woods. A lot of times I go in and the have a “sorry we are out” sticker over the drink on the menu. This is quite the conundrum as a few times this past week I have gome to get one and the are out, so i go to another Starbucks nearby and sometimes they have it, sometimes they don’t, sometimes I go home with my head down. Is it like this where you are?

All this week i have had to go with almond milk. I tried coconut milk once but it was kind of slimy.

I like cow milk and avoid Starbucks lol

Why not find a local place with oat milk?

For oat drinks stump town has pretty amazing cold brew and makes one with oat milk

I prefer organic soymilk in my coffee, but oatmilk is super easy to make. Ask if they'll make you a Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso if you bring your own oatmilk.

It's easy to not be afraid of tigers when you're sitting in your living room watching a television program about tigers. When you're in the jungle where the tigers are, it's quite a different story.

I don’t like the aftertaste of soymilk personally. Even almond milk has a taste that takes away from the coffee. But the oatmilk doesn’t alter the flavor as much as other alternatives but still pretty creamy. Looking at the Stumptown it appears they are buying up all the Oatly so Starbucks runs out. Pretty shady tactics. Typical coffee mafia stuff.

ya cause with Covid they total aren’t letting you use reuse-able cups, but I’m sure that brining your own ingredients is ok, as long as they aren’t in a cup or Tupperware when you being them in.

Do you dislike using regular milk or cream? Sounds like it could be pretty good but I don't see why it would be superior as a substitution for the former.

I’m no spring chicken anymore. In my old age, i am unable to tolerate much dairy any longer. Didn’t bother me when i was younger, but has gotten progressively worse now so I avoid it. And i would say this new drink they have is as good if not better than any of their dairy drinks which is why this is such a travesty for people who can’t tolerate lactose.

    Ah, gotcha.

I don't often go to Starbucks but I will look for it next time and see if they've got it in my state.

dude i seriously thought you were maybe in your 40's tops, congrats on maintaining the lifestyle at an advanced age! so far no issues with dairy here but many people i know in their 60's and 70's have mentioned that a glass of milk is the most they should do a day.

Same. Have you tried Lactaid pills? I'm extremely lactose intolerant to even trace amounts of dairy, but they help me eat some cheese and my daily Greek yogurt with no issues whatsoever.

I actually dislike regular milk and I'm with you that oat milk>>>>anything else when it comes to coffee drinks though. It has a very rich consistency that coconut or almond milk lack but without the sticky "milkiness" of regular milk (for lack of a better word).

Not good quality whey isolates. However artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols trash my stomach so its always a bit of work to find a good isolate without those.

    .
I have. They help but is kind of a pain. I need to take them like half hour before, so need to have them with me if I am going somewhere etc. Its like condoms for dairy. But if I am going somewhere like out to get ice cream or something then its worth it. But I actually like this oat milk drink better than any other starbucks drink atm

I make my own yogurt, if you ferment for 24 hours its lactose free, so i am fine with that also. Or hard aged cheeses.

I tried oatmilk in my coffee today and it's what I'll be using from now on. Thank you, big time thank you!
It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

It's easy to not be afraid of tigers when you're sitting in your living room watching a television program about tigers. When you're in the jungle where the tigers are, it's quite a different story.

My supermarket was giving away samples today of: Oatly - Organic Creamy Oat - Oat Alternative to Cream

I made a latte with it. I was pleasantly surprised. Very fat though. The Oatly oat milk barista edition is better if you prefer your coffee less creamy. I guess by adding water I can get it to almost the same contents as the barista edition oat milk.

On topic: there's been a massive shortage in Amsterdam too. Oatly oat milk barista edition is the most popular for coffee. I think it sells more than regular milk. Probably because of the taste itself and probably also because the amount of vegans and/or environment conscious people is growing.

The one I'm using is EARTH'S OWN So Fresh OAT MILK. It's really excellent.

Interesting, the one a i have in my fridge is Califia Farms oat Barista blend. It might be a local to California thing. I’ll keep an eye out for the other brands mentioned as well. Pretty sure Starbucks uses Oatly Barista Blend
