    Personal Trainer Marketplace

    Hi All,

I'm looking for a personal trainer, but I don't see the point in paying my gym $50-$60 an hour just for the trainer to earn maybe 30%-40% of that. Unfortunately, from reading a little about the industry on this forum and elsewhere, I've noticed that the gym pockets a nice chunk of the payments.

I would much rather pay the trainer a little more directly, so that they walk out with $30-$35 cash on the spot, and I save some money as well. Is there any website or app that links trainers to clients directly (kind of like a taskrabbit or even uber)? In particular, I'm looking for one that services the Long Island, NY region.

If none exists, do you think that there would be a demand for such a service?

Alternatively, what would happen if I approached a trainer at any gym in my area and offered to pay him/her a lower rate directly in cash, either to train me at their gym or another gym? Would that be insulting to the trainer? Would they risk their employment? Meaning, if Gym ABC charges $600 for 10 sessions, can I approach a trainer there and offer to pay them $400 for 10 sessions directly, and maybe we meet at GYM XYZ?

    Thanks.

Might have to do the walk-into-gym approach. Worst case the trainer(s) say no.
Have you considered online coaching or do you need the in person hands on approach?
