No. WCW was dead the second the Time Warner merger happened. Without Ted Turner to protect WCW, execs killed it off. People chit on 2000 WCW, but it was still a monster ratings hit and any sane cable company would've kept it going. But the new TW management wanted nothing to do with wrestling.

Funny too considering Vince was freaking out over the merger and doing everything he could to mitigate damage.

As noliberals said it was down to the AOL TW merger and little else. They would have kept going indefinatley as Turner could have kept funding it as long as he wanted. It's likely at some point it'd have improved too.

As much as WWE wants to claim they won the Monday night wars it really wasn't anything to do with them that WCW ended.

    This is the truth.
Even if ratings were dropping, TNT (and other time-warner channels) would have had dozen of other places to put wrestling (other nights, other channels). They straight up wanted it gone so they could focus on warner-produced dramas

Yeah, as awful as 2000 WCW was -- ratingswise it was beyond anything we have today, and honestly, quality-wise it wasn't that far behind either. RAW is unwatchable. Smackdown is probably the best thing they have and it's only saved by the amount of talent at the top. AEW is cute but also barely wrestling at times.

WCW was on borrowed time regardless. Russo didn't help but it wasn't his fault.
