george st pierre on JRE podcast

shares a lot of cool training techniques that he wouldn't reveal until after retirement, guy was so ahead of his time.

why his karate matched up well with muay thai, how his takedowns worked against superior wrestlers. really cool stuff it's worth tuning in.

He goes in to detail about that, it’s actually pretty brilliant....said it was always how he setup his shot and wouldn’t work in a wrestling match but was perfect for mma. Used Bruce Lee’s principles a lot. So amazing how being humble opened up his eyes to try more.

Explains why bjj background guys have a hard time in mma and what he did to correct that.

I picked through the podcast and listened to the training parts you mentioned.

He’s always been a brilliant athlete. I’m surprised other mma guys aren’t/weren’t doing this. Boxers do. NFL teams do.

I’ve always respected GSPs approach to training.

After his explanations, it makes you wonder, if other fighters with potentially more skill wouldn’t have toppled him if they trained as smart. That’s the beauty of the sport.

yes, mma although having evolved is still behind but then again it's a relatively new sport.

His MMA wrestling with how he put people on their backs when off balance was still the best we've ever seen. Not as overwhelmingly powerful like Khabib or DC and I'm not sure his top control game could keep bigger guys down but those takedowns were beautiful.

He definitely lost some explosiveness after his knee injury in 2011.

The Hendricks fight is a bit of a blemish on his record even though he got the split decision. Does he ever breakdown why he wasn't able to get a decisive win in that fight the way we were accustomed to seeing from him?

His gas tank didn't appear to be there for the Bisping fight. Mad props to him for getting aggressive and going for the finish as I'm not convinced he could've grinded out a decision.

Listened to half the podcast and will probably finish the rest tonight. The guy was so ahead of his time by 10 years. A prime example of someone that used their head to get the best of opponents. The fact that he says he's better as a Southpaw, but saved that move for when he needed it in his career (which GSP ended never using according to him) just shows he was always a step ahead. The frame and reaction stuff with BJ Penn too. Guys a genius.

Fedor is still the GOAT for me, but GSP is somewhere in the top 5 and probably top 3.

he talked about big rig his first time on the podcast but not this time around, he didn't say directly that he was on the sauce but when joe brought it up he said he felt a lot of his opponents were using. gsp is classy and didn't want to point the finger but at the same time made it clear he knows what's going on.

to be fair, Hendrick's punches were loaded with dynamite. srsly would be hard to survive and stay motivated after getting hit by those. all 8 of his ko/tko wins were in rounds 1 & 2

You see it with some guys, they have a way of thinking that is outside the norm

Watch fighters when they talk/how they talk/what things they pick up on/talk about

You can tell a lot about someone and their abilities just from hearing them talk about things. And it's not confident demeanor I'm referring to, it's something else. It's a level of understanding about how things works. There are some people that have a real confident demeanor, they allude confidence, but you can see in how they talk about things that they don't have that understanding

Most people aren't turned on like that, they're walking around switched off and unaware, they're just average, they're like everyone else, they think like everyone else.

To be at the top of something, you have to be different, by definition, and it shows when someone is different
Fak U say? Cheeky kent ya, i'll fakin fak ya, ya lil sloot
