    Replacing bicycle crunches

My daughter and I are doing a full-body dumbell workout and I chose bicycle crunches for abs because as far as I know they target the most muscles. But I've read that these can actually weaken the center of the abs over time, causing them to spread out and giving the impression of a 'pooch' (this is just what the article said - I know flab is controlled by diet). Anyway I'm looking for a good stand-in. What one ab exercise would you choose to replace these with?

Thanks for your advice, man! Here's the article if you wanted to check it out. I don't remember how I came across it as I'm not a mom lol

I was actually trying to find video of the exercise they're describing, but nothing anywhere on that.
