Question What Captains of Crush gripper can you close?

What CoC gripper can you close? Have you trained for it, and if so, what worked for you?

I have messed around with them a few times but have never really trained with them consistently. I can close the 2.5 with a good set.

If you can close a 2.5 already without really training them, you need to get serious with them because the average guy struggles to close the #1. The average male grip is 110 pounds, and the 2.5 is over double that.

I can close a 2 with either hand by setting it first, but that's the best I got.

Yes I started training them when I made this thread. Doing the no. 2 for a few sets to begin with to see if it works. Closing the 3 or even the 3.5 would be great.

I have the 2 and can close it fairly easily with both hands. I do train grip a bit from DL's & farmers carry. I'd like to get a 3 and see if I can get it done but I've heard it's a big jump.

I don’t know how the COC’s compare to the Heavygrips, but I can close the HG200’s with both hands and can close the HG 250 about half way

The HG200 is slightly harder than a COC #1 in my opinion, the HG250 is easier than a #2.

According to cannon powerworks' tables, the #1 is indeed tougher than the HG200, though the HG250 is easier than the #2 on average.

HGs are known to be notoriously inconsistent (or at least that’s what is said... maybe by the CoC manufacturers) so it’s hard to compare an individual one to a CoC. That said, I think they are great for the price and improving yourself, just apparently not for comparing to others.

I quit training grippers for 2 reasons. I was doing heavy negatives and felt a pop in my lower part of my ring finger. It swelled up and bruised and i couldn’t close it for over a month. All seems fine now though.

And 2. I followed Jess Johnson on youtube (grip guy who is great at grippers). He talks about how it’s probably the least translatable grip work to anything else (I refuse to use the word functional).

I stick with farmers walk (over 300lbs per hand on occasion), assisted pull-ups on my yoke (over a 2 inch thick bar), axle work etc. Also, natural stone lifting is insanely hard on fingers and forearms

I actually met him several times back in the day at strongman meets, really nice guy. Interesting how his views had changed over the years. When the Diesel Crew were doing the Combat Hard and Combat Grip series, grippers were a part of that.
