Sound like an auto newb..but how would you guys go about getting a set of new tires

    Whats going on fellas?

Pretty much it is as the title states. Was going to drive cross country in a few weeks and my tires now have tons of mileage on them. Was looking to completely replace the entire set.

My main question is how would I go about doing this in regards to getting the best deal? Should I go with one of the national shops or look for a local shop?

    thanks in advance fellas

    1. identify the tire you want to buy

    2. search for it in google shopping, sort by total price

this usually finds some obscure website with a 15% off coupon site-wide that also applies to the tires you want (srs) then bring them to any tire shop to have them mounted and balanced

Get something in the medium price range. Don't cheap out or buy the most expensive tires.

Go to a Honda dealership and ask them if they can mount and balance and do something called "roadforced". Not many shops have this machine. It's about $70 to roadforce all four tires.

Many shop just mount and balance, and that's not enough.

    Check out reviews on TireRack.

Find the tire you want at the best price you can find.

Order the tires yourself and have a shop put them on.

From experience, typically going to a tire shop severely narrows your options as they will try to sell you on the tires they keep in stock/can get from their distributor, which usually is more expensive or a sh*ttier tire.

If you are looking to get the best deal, get your tire size and just call a number of shops in your area and ask about any promotions they have going on. Also be sure to ask about any additional costs for mount / balance / old tire disposal / taxes / etc.

If you don’t even know how to go about getting tires, then you won’t be able to notice the difference between an expensive vs. cheap tires. Just get cheap ones that claim long tread life.

I just got new tires for my 200, ended up going through Tire Rack and had one of their mobile installers come to the house and put them on for me while I was working. My Dad was the one who dealt with the tech while I was on the phone and was happy with the guy here that did the work on my car as well as the equipment on his van and I even paid less to have the mobile tech do the work at my home while I was working than I would have taking the car in on a day off and waiting in the lobby!

I also agree on tires, stay as far away from the cheap and especially cheap no name tires, my Chrysler 200 came with cheap, under rated and maybe slightly undersized (car was rated at 283hp and has a short 1st gear) Goodyear’s from the factory and I’ve bought used cars that had tires that were stock size, but not even as good this car’s factory Goodyear’s were. I’ve moved to 10mm wider V and Z rated all seasons (225/50TR18 was stock) from both BF Goodrich Comp 2 A/S+ and Firestone Firehawk A/S in 235/50R18 and are currently running between $150-$170 on TireRack right now, as an example while the good equivalent Michelin’s are $200+, IIRC.

Go to tirerack.com and search for your car, find tires that you like based on reviews and if you don't want to order from them print out the grand total and any local shop should price match it. If you simply go to a local shop you will get the same exact tires and pay quite a bit more.

figure out the appropriate dimension of tire you need to match your current one/OEM spec

search on discount tire's website for appropriate tires

pick the one that fits your budget/needs, but stick with the more reputable brands. Cooper, Michelin, Continental, goodyear, pirelli, BFG, kumho, hankook

search for that tire elsewhere, find the cheapest price you can

take that price back to discount and have them pricematch for you, then mount/balance/install there. swap over the TPMS from your original tires so you don't have to buy all new units
"So there I am sitting in the waiting area of the hair salon with my niece and Keanu Reeves walks in. I was nervous as ****, but too scared to say anything to him. Then my niece started crying, and I’m trying to quiet her down because I don't want to bother him. Pretty soon he walks over and asks what's wrong. I replied that she was probably hungry. He put down his magazine, picked up my niece, and lifted up his shirt, and breastfed her right there in the salon. Chill guy, really nice about it."

Yeah we have Discount Tires here. I didn't search for the tires before hand so not sure if I could of gotten them better or not. I bought the warranty on all of mine and I've had three nails somehow and have gotten each one replaced for $20 a tire.

Costco or America's Tire would the be cheapest and best service.

Do not buy tires from a local mom & pop auto shop. They will rip you off.

Depends on the shop. My girlfriend priced some new tires at a few different large/chain tire places. They were trying to tell her she needed to replace all four tires and they couldn't just sell her 2 new front tires because of safety reasons and stuff like that.

Went to a mom and pop local shop and the guy told her only her two front tires needed to be replaced at this time and he charged $300 less per tire. Aside from saving her $600 on just her two front tires. He also saved her from needing to buy two back tires. Her rear tires were fine and did not need to be changed for another 5K miles or so.

Simple truth is pricing around is key.

Just replaced mine last week. Bought them online and had dealership mount, balance, and do an alignment. Saved about $200 over buying the same tires anywhere in town.
