Will Renegade Rows add mass around the mid-section?

I started working out with my daughter and one of the exercises in the workout we're currently doing is Renegade Rows. She is concerned this might hinder her goal of a slim waist, however. Is this something we need to consider when choosing our workout?

Usually a thick waist is from bodyfat... Those rows don't do a lot for the muscles around the waist but even if you did target them specifically - the abdominals for example are a flat sheet of muscle which don't hypertrophy that much at the best of times.

Unfortunately, shape is strongly dictated by genetics, especially for women. If she loses bodyfat, it may come off her hips/butt first rather than her waist but there isn't much you can do about that.

Kudos for doing a truly badass exercise. It won't hinder your daughters goal.
It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

It's easy to not be afraid of tigers when you're sitting in your living room watching a television program about tigers. When you're in the jungle where the tigers are, it's quite a different story.

Thanks for the replies! Yeah, they're no joke, especially when you start getting into the heavier weights lol. We'll keep them in the workout for now

If you do them properly, strict and slow, you can't really do them a lot, I find. I alternate them from workout to workout with inverted rows.
