    Leg extension search, bent arm

I had piggy backed my leg extension search on my leg curl thread, but needed a separate thread. In an episode of mutant on the mission, Big Ron mentions that the arm on leg curl machines can get bent. That is it better to have a center arm rather than a side arm. So I saw this body masters leg extension and asked for more pics. Looks like the arm on it is bent. Is there anyway to salvage this? Thanks in advance.

Edit: here is the video. They look at a cybex kneeling leg curl which is what I ended up getting.

You could have someone weld up a new arm that is thicker steel so it would not bend as much. Body Masters made great stuff but I don't think you would be happy with that leg extension. I had a side driven Promaxima leg extension that once you got into the higher weight you could see the arm bend - drove me nuts. My King fitness seated leg curl has a similar design and it bends as well. Now I have a Cybex eagle leg extension which is still side driven but has the adjuster in the middle similar to the Strive leg extension that doesn't bend.

Some of you guys must be pushing some very serious weight. The guy I bought my machine off of only sold it because he needed a stack heavier than 200lbs but the side mounted arm isn’t bent.
I’ve used old Nautilus and Cybex models with a side mount and haven’t seen an arm bent.
I would not buy one that is bent, just saying mine and others I’ve used have not been as well.
Almost forgot, the Legend leg extension I used to have also had a side mount and 250lb stack and it was straight as well and is still being used in a commercial gym.
Eric I wouldn’t be afraid to buy another side mount model but don’t buy one that is bent .

I don’t need much weight either. Too bad about the bent arm because the piece is a tank and probably an otherwise very good leg extension.

It looks as if someone tried fixing the bent arm on the machine already. It looks like there is a piece of flat stock welded right above the adjuster. I don't think Body master would do something like that. I googled some BM leg extension and I didn't see that welded on them either.

If the machine is cheap enough it might be worth fixing.

I have a Cybex VR2 and no bending here.

While you could have someone weld up a new, sturdier piece, the cost probably wouldn't be worth it vs buying a machine that is ready to go.

Looks to be in good shape & the arm doesn't look bent. 200lb stack I would make sure that's heavy enough. The two leg extensions I had/have 300lb stacks. Not that I would ever use that much but good to know I wouldn't need a heavier one at some point. Its in good shape just need a new wear cover that I'm sure you can handle from your other posts.

Looks like a decently maintained functional unit. It's commercial but nothing special. Really depends on budget/space/need and whether you are looking for a "killer piece" or just something to do a decent job or even a matched pair. I got lucky in my search but original criteria was "functional quality".

I had a Cybex Classic and now have a VR2. No complaints with either, but I definitely prefer the VR2 for it's array of adjustment points. If the price is right on this one, go for it. Check the movement though and make sure the guide rods are straight. Any time I see someone has moved it with the weight stack intact, I get a bit concerned.

Thank you all,all on spread. I don’t think the arm is bent, was referring to the body masters piece from my first post. I didn’t want to make another new thread. Not a dream piece but would work for me, stack is heavy enough. I would need to take the weight stack of to transport.

I believe it's just a double snap ring holding the guide rods in place on these.

Someone up here just sold a Life Fitness leg extension and leg curl for $800/ea and someone offered me $1,000 + his leg extension for my Cybex VR1, so $650 would probably go fast. I would never pay $650 though for a leg extension.

he’ll probably get 650 eventually and maybe I’ll pay that much. Thinking he is discounting 4K is dreaming. Nothing special about that piece.
I was in about 600 with delivery for the cybex leg curl. Was a must have piece. I’d pay more than 650 for a hammer plate loaded leg extension, not the iso one.

Normal times, $650 is fully priced that piece IMO - would sit for a while and maybe not go at all. Right now, I think he'll get it with a bit of time. You are right though, no frills at all, just a solid very basic commercial piece. Really depends on how much you want one now. It's a keeper for sure and does the job. I don't think you'll ever find replacing it a priority unless something "wow" shows up.

You know the market as well as any - nothing "wow" here, merely solid and serviceable, price isn't "wow" but it's not totally offensive either especially given the times. Comes down to how bad you need or want a leg extension.

Haven't been able to "rep" many of you for a year or more...not for lack of trying.
