Y's VIII - Never played this series.

I've never played the Y's series of RPG's, but Y's VIII kinda looks like Xenoblade which I can only play on my switch. After looking at some videos it kinda looks like PSO2 as well.

If I liked xenoblade or PSO2 will I like Y's VIII? Will I understand the story jumping in at VIII? Is there another Y's game I should play first?

Also reading a bit this is a remaster of an older game and it appears it's been patched to be much better than previously.

I had never heard of the series until a few years ago when HappyConsoleGamer did a review on Ys VIII and I became quite interested by the looks of them but I just never ended up pulling the trigger.

If I find it on a solid sale I'll still pick Ys VIII up.

I've got this on the backburner, the Ys games were developed by Falcom who also made the Trails series which I love so I want to give this a shot.

I've heard nothing about good things about Ys 8, apparently Ys 9 which was just released is even better.

Might be even worth revisiting some of the older Ys games like Ys 5 and 6.

Played this on Switch when it came out. It's actually a pretty good game, cool story.

I too thought it would be like Xenoblade: it is nothing like Xenoblade. I was a bit disappointed because I thought that, but after I got over that I started to enjoy it.

I bought Ys: Memories of Celceta Timeless Adventurer Edition and played it on PS4. It feels like this should be a handheld game like for the Switch. Story was ok, a little cartoony. There is a bunch of history of the protagonist, but it gets filled in as you play so you don't really need to understand all of it. I haven't finished the game yet, I am still working on AC Valhalla.

Currently $23.99 on GoG, just randomly saw they had some anime RPG's on sale and this caught my eye along with Trails of the Cold Steel (sooby mentioned ). Wanted something to play on my PC since my switch is often occupied by kids.

I might even check out some of the older ones, love the classic jRPG aesthetics

[edit] Trails of Cold Steel looks like a sci-fi version damn might have to buy both.

I was reading some of the negative Steam reviews and they all talked about how the game was not recognizing any of their controllers, so if that's the case then I'm not going to buy this game, I only want to play it with my xbox controller...

A lot of them also talked about it being really buggy, low frame rates despite having top tier PCs, not going full screen, etc..

Were these recent reviews? My understanding is the game released pretty poorly but they've fixed it over time. Kinda weird about the controllers, since you can emulate any controller time through steam at least

VIII (Dana) was my first introduction to the series and what an adventure it was. Open world and non stop gameplay, loved it
