    SRT division axed by Stellantis.

Fuk this gay electric vehicle Earth.

    http://speedtwitch.com/srt-is-dead-s...ance-division/

Stellantis has killed off the Street & Racing Technology (SRT) engineering team that created over a dozen high-performance vehicles, including the Dodge Charger Hellcat.

PSA Group, a French multinational manufacturer, merged with Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) in January of this year, forming the new ‘Stellantis’ brand. The $4.22 Billion merger was agreed to in principle back in December 2019, and was made official on January 4, 2021 – effectively ended the long-storied American FCA brand.

Despite the end of SRT, the priority of performance isn’t necessarily going away. “All of the core elements of the SRT performance engineering team have been integrated into our company’s global engineering organization,” a spokeswoman told enthusiast website Mopar Insiders. She added that integrating SRT’s personnel into other brands in the Stellantis portfolio will ensure that the lessons learned from decades of peddling speed will permeate other products.

Regardless, SRT’s demise sadly marks the end of an era for Chrysler. The performance division traces its roots back 1989, when some of the company’s brightest minds were brought together to develop the first-generation Dodge Viper. It then merged with Team Prowler to form the Specialty Vehicle Engineering (SVE) group, which was later renamed Performance Vehicle Operations (PVO) in 2002 and finally dubbed SRT in 2004.

SRT has operated as the manufacturer’s in-house tuner ever since, its history included a diverse selection of cars ranging from the Neon SRT-4 to the Hellcat-powered Ram 1500 TRX, and it was promoted to a standalone brand led by designer Ralph Gilles in 2011.

i read in another post they are continuing to produce SRT verticals. I think this just means the engineers that worked on these products will have other work to do as well.

that's kind of what they're saying publicly. again; publicly.

i don't feel like this bodes well for guys like me who like big loud overweight challengers that harken back to the early 70s. at least, with engines that can support them.

When will these retard multinational corporations learn that their performance brands are an investment in having a cooler image in the US. Even Toyota had to start making performance cars again because a large percentage of their potential customer base thought they were bland. Not sure about the profitability of the individual SRT versions of their cars but even if they are sold at a loss they are marketing to get people to take a look at their brand over all and purchase the real money makers. People buy v6 Challengers because they look like the Hellcat, if the top tier models didn't exist no one would be purchasing that boat of a "sports car"

That is why Chevy sells the Corvette and Camaro, its to get people looking, even though most of their commuter car lineup is gutter trash, some clever marketing will convince any mouth breather that there is Corvette tech in their Malibu or whatever.

Makes me wonder if there will be an SRT version of the new redesigned Grand Cherokee.

I loved my 2014 SRT, and looks like I may have to purchase a 2021 Trackhawk for the end of the era.

I think they are going to quickly realize how nobody wants to buy a Dodge product that isn't some big V8 Hemi powered SRT, because everything else they make is crap.

They're going to go the Ford route and just push SUV's and trucks now I'd bet. They'll keep the Challenger and the Charger around but won't improve it at all unless you think a hybrid or electric is an improvement.

Agreed. I think they’re just going to slowly phase these engineers out, or force them to go to a different division.

The new Cherokee looks freaking sweet. Its no wonder why they are abandoning the SRT lineup. Base models look nice enough already.

Quick glance at it without looking it up... wasnt Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler already under FCA? Maybe I didnt notice with the last year with its unofficial presence.

If they dont make a new Viper ill be disappointed.

Only if you’re not a true, blue Mopar person, they start doing crazy things with the Pentastar V6 or any future EVs (now having PSA’s programs to work from), there could still be some wild stuff hitting the streets, just be grader to hear coming.

Electrics are a pretty good replacement tbh, huge and heavy and go really fast in a straight line.

Doesn't mean those cars are gone, exactly. Just won't have the whole SRT badges. Absolute retards if they stop making the high powered chryslers here in the US.

InB4 they announce they are going all electric.

Sounds like the SRT badges will continue, just be developed in a different way. That said, if Chevy can make a commuter hatch and mini-crossover with 200hp and 266lbs/ft of torque that still gets 250miles or more of range, think of what could happen if you let engineers go crazy like GM did with the supercharged LS and LT V8s and Chrysler’s Hellcat engines. Can you imagine a Charger that will fry the 305s on each corner under acceleration while doing so as if not more violently than a Demon at sea level on a prepped surface with a good driver?

Why - in order to sell they'd have to make an automatic viper, with safety features, and probably a V6.

I love my Gen 4 and 5 and would rather the Viper go out on top than come back with some weak-ass bastardization of what it was.

Here's my question, us car enthusiasts are a very miniscule percentage or so they say, why get rid of V8s? Are we making that much pollution? Hell, I barely see sports cars around my area.

The numbers don't add up. Car enthusiasts is a rare crowd

It’s all political propaganda. Cars account for a very small % of CO2 emissions when looking at them collectively.

    Propaganda for what?

If anything they should sell 95% electric cars and 5% performance. Most folks don't care about performance
