    ITT - Side By Sides

Thinking about selling the old four wheeler and getting a used 4 seater side by side. Any recommendations on brands, what to look for, what to stay away from?

Right now I've got a used 16 Rzr 900 but it's pretty high miles at 9k. There are also a couple Wildcats in good shape with low miles. Reps for any help.

i keep considering doing the same thing, trading my quad in on one. I use the quad for utility as well, so i would probably get something like the can am defender or commander. Maybe the Polaris General. That new Yamaha looks pretty legit too and would be MUCH better reliability than the canam or polaris.
BUT, i need something with a bed, you may not. In that case, the wildcat looks pretty rad for the price!

What will it be used for? Utility / hunting, sport, both?

I got a 2021 Polaris General XP4 - Pursuit Edition a few months ago, and I absolutely love it.

If looking at any of the newer Polaris vehicles be sure to get the “XP” version of possible as they come stock with basically all the mods you’ll want to do to the base model.

All the above. But mostly getting into the mountains for fun and hunting with the fam. There are 4 of us which is why I'm leaning towards a 4 seater. There is a 14 Wildcat on FB for a pretty good price. Only 1400 miles and looks like great condition. But I don't know anything about Arctic Cat.

My only experience was when we rented them in Vegas to rip around the desert after we lied and said we had lots of experience with them, never been on one before in my life.

They were insanely fun and seemed to be quite rugged because we beat the absolute **** out of them without issue.

Only incident we had was one of my buddies hitting a huge rock dead on and popping the tire. He drove it back with the flat and barely even needed to slow down.

Why side x side when you can Sherp.

We have a few of these for our wilder sites. Might be a little spendy for a hunting buggy though.

Polaris is the industry leader in side by sides by a pretty huge margin. Razr for sport, Ranger for utility, and General for combo of both.

If you want a sport SXS, my vote would be to stick with the Razr’s, especially if that’s what you have now. Wildcats are cheap, but it’s due to them being nowhere as capable as Razrs in the sport SXS market.

If you are planning on spending time in the mountains and hunting with the family then I would strongly suggest looking at Generals. Watch the videos on them, they absolutely can still rip on trails, but have a lot of advantages over the Razr with the more spacious cab / better seating position / larger bed / etc.

Polaris makes some very fun machines, but the build quality is chit. If you don’t need a turbo, Yamaha every time. Yamaha makes some of the best boating engines, raptor, r1, dirt bikes, musical equipment etc. you can’t go wrong with a Yamaha

What is your budget? For the type of riding you are doing, the General is king. You will see lots of Razr and Ranger guys going to Generals, but you never see guys going from Generals to anything else. It’s the best SXS in the industry.

Can Am makes some great machines, and was seriously looking at a Commander. They are quite a bit more expensive than the Polaris machines. Also didn’t have anything close to the XP packages on the Generals (stock 30” tires, offset / perched arms, racing shocks, and Razr clutching / running gear).

Do you have any experience with Yamaha side by sides or quads in direct comparison to Polaris? NVM, I already know.

Yamaha makes some good SXS too, and can be had for relatively cheap. Good fit / finish, with good reliability. Just way down on performance. Honda is the same.

Yes I’ve had one and an r1 and currently have a raptor and yz250f. Fiends have a rzr and another has the turbo. Guess whose had been in the shop more? Weird comment phaggot

Im in a large outdoor group that rides ATVs, Dirt bikes and side by sides...

The guys that run side by sides , something is ALWAYS broken on them. Its so bad most of them trailer a four wheeler or dirt bike along with the side by side.

I dont know what it is about them that causes so much carnage but if you dont like to wrench on the weekends, stay away....and the brand doesnt seem to matter. They all break. I frequent an outdoor shop and the service guy said that 80% of the orders through the parts shop are side by side parts and side by sides make up a fraction of the stores sales.

...one other thing is that its hard to "total" a 4 wheeler or bike. You can generally replace everything on them. It seems to be much easier to total out a side by side to the point it cost more to fix it than its worth.

I would really like to add one to my collection but from what I've seen, it isnt worth it.

I would really like to add one to my collection but from what I've seen, it isnt worth it.
They are just much heavier so you break axles and other suspension bits a good bit. Just like a jeep taken on heavy trails. Better bring a spare axle with you.

And people drive them like maniacs too.

Good point. Axles / shafts / gears / belt are the weak links for sure.

Very big factor is guys modding their rigs with big offset wheels, 30-33’s, and junk clutching / gearing. It’s one of the main reasons I got an “XP”, so it’s overbuilt built from the factory.

Bunch of guys I know are constantly battling issues as they have built their sport Rzr, but try to use it more as a utility hunting / swamp / mud rig. Or guys with Rangers / Pioneers / Rhinos who use them like Rzrs and wonder why they battle constant issues. And then some guys can phuk up an anvil in a sandbox.
