    Metal Recycling To Buy Weights

So I started a new job about a year back when we moved from Houston to Austin operating Excavatorss for a metal recycling center loading 18 wheelers.

So with the price of weights at $2.00 a lb in some places I wanted to mention some of you looking to build a home gym to check with your recycle centers. They like to find buyers for material rather than shipping it off when possible because they can make a few more cents per lb.So I’d you tell them to let the yard guys know you’ll buy every weight they find they’ll usually put them to the side.

With that said, in one year I’ve managed to collect every single Dumbell set from 2.5 lbs to 95 lbs. I have over 4,000 lbs in weight plates, various Olympic and skull crushers bars of all shapes, two squat racks, two cable machines, two pull up and dip towers, and some of golds gym old machines that they brought us in installing new cables on. I’m also buying square tubing off the yard for pennies on the dollar to build custom cross fit set ups.

Just a thought with the price of weights you may be worthwhile for some of you to check out.

I reached out to my local yards early on, but too many flippers in my area since the pandemic for this to pan out. The yards in my area aren't even getting this stuff the last several months.

My local metal recyclers won't sell to individuals at all, including their own employees.

Sorry to hear that, that sucks. We sell to everyone. We ship off about 30 18-wheelers of metal per week. Pretty much iron and scrap metal. But anything worth while that we see we put on a side yard. We have a huge side yard about 5 acres of things we deemed worthwhile and we have a ton of buyers that come buy week in and week out, many guys who own flea markets.

With that said, right after I made this post, a machine came through and the guy said they bought it for their gym at work, then closed the gym. It has lat pulls, chest press, cable curls, cable rows, machine rows, fly's, and all. I thought it was going to be a cheap machine.....! Looked it up, it looks like it's a $2,000.00 plus machine!

I had to dig through 2 huge boxes to get to all the weights for it. Started bolting the few dismantled parts on it and it looks like it's going to work!!!
