LogicalIncrements.com and select Canada from the drop down in the top left corner of the screen. It will build you out a full tower based on price and desired criteria (scored against gaming, video editing, etc) and link directly to websites selling the items in Canada

Newegg.ca, Amazon.ca, can go to Memory Express, any number of places here. Assembling towers is easy af IMO, and enjoyable

Any graphics card you can find and afford lol
Get a 1 TB NVME Samsung drive and a second SSD for storage (or get 2TB NVME if you're rich)

Pick and price match all your parts online, go to a local PC shop they will build and install everything for maybe $70.

What I did, I can care less about learning to build a PC.

If you live in a town with a Memory Express I'd recommend shopping there. If you don't feel like assembling they do it for pretty cheap.

Kinda need to know budget and your intent (4K gaming? 144hz refresh rate? etc.) to recommend parts, though.

You can definitely tweak things. If you want to pay more for full SSD or a bigger version of the SSD, go for ‘er. They also typically put pretty basic RAM in there I think, but pretty sure more expensive RAM wouldn’t give a significant performance increase

Also note that the 3080s are obvs impossible to get right now unless you want to pay scalper prices, which I would strongly recommend against

I'm not clicking that link but last time I checked it was retarded, go from a basic build to a more expensive build and all of a sudden you graduate from a cheap case to a $400 case, nothing "logical" about that other than the click through revenue people using it produce.

I’m not even sure what revenue they would generate tbh, there are zero ads on the site. Maybe a tiny bit from data harvesting, either that or they have deals with Newegg and Amazon etc but I’d be surprised

Seems like a pretty solid argument for the case scaling but not sure how many people would want a cheap case potentially choking off the air flow or whatever on their expensive build

i'd wait a couple of weeks until new ryzen cpus come out, and get a 5800x with a x570 board, 1tb nvme + 2tb or more regular 2.5" ssd or some large hard drive, 32gb 3600mhz ram, and a nvidia gtx 2070 gpu or 3070/3080 if you can find one (probably not) as main components.

    Looks like a good list.

The thing with hard drives is that one want a fairly big one (1 TB min) for your games (SSD) and cheaper hard drive for data.

Memory express is a damn fine one stop shop, got my last two pcs there and have no complaints.

Also, if you just want to purchase the parts and assemble it yourself, buy PC building simulator to get accustomed with the in's and out's.

Lots of cheap cases have food airflow, you don't need a Lian Li just because you upped your GPU to a good tier. You don't know how affiliate links work? Everything you click on that site is one of those.

just go canada computers and show them your pcpart list and they can work around your budget. they build it for you as well I think like $50, did a good job on the wiring as well. saved 200 not getting them to install windows, did that myself, can just download it from site onto a usb, haven't got full version yet, dont mind the watermark.

An alternative case will be what, a $100-150 savings on a $2800 build?

yeah a lot of those they like to scale the cost of the case and the cooling solutions, just because someone can afford more for a build doesnt mean they arent looking for best value. If i went from a $1000 build to a $1500 build, i would rather the $500 go towards the stuff that matters.

Are there threads on this forum detailing entire builds with value components compared to what logical increments specifies?

Post it up dude, could also use an alternative for my next build. Not interested in problems, only looking for solutions

case can be subjective and depends on what youre looking for. some examples of considerations:

    - aesthetics, color ect
    - do you want a window and neon lights
    - what kind of ports do you want on the front
    - size and if youre using fullsize motherboard or want a smaller build
    - do you want a watercooled setup
    - noise - some cases focus on low noise at the potential tradeoff of higher temps
    - price

My personal wants in a case from 2013 that i still use today are:
    - smallest size that still fit a full size motherboard
    - front 5.25" bays, i actually have all 3 filled - dvdrw, card reader, smart card reader
    - no neon lights, no glass door, not my thing, plain black no crazy colors
    - dont care about water cooling

it was only a $60 case and i like it better than a lot of the more expensive ones. its a corsair carbide 200r

to find a case, you could either google case reviews and a lot of times they will do like 10 cases at once, or you can go on newegg and use their search function which can let you filter out by features if you know what features you want.

still fits and its from 2012 but yes it was one of the smallest "full size" cases at that time, i didnt want to be forced into only matx boards. I have a 2070 in mine. But that is just an example of the case i use and like, a lot is subjective and a lot of people have different requirements, i wasnt saying OP should use that specific one but it is what i use and shows cases dont have to be $200+.

I agree with you being designed 8 years ago with cards getting bigger and bigger it wouldnt be the best case for someone who buys the top end cards, it is also limited in what size water cooling it can support but I dont use that. It has 3 5.25" bays where a lot of cases these days would use that for either radiator mounting or fan mounting, but I actually use all 3 bays.

I've been building my PC's off parts I've been getting off Newegg for years, over a century now, but it's been a long time since I last built a computer. Been using laptops for a long time now but in my experience a computer is a computer and desktops are really easy to work on, much easier than a laptop, everything about them is setup for easy (dis)assembly and maintenance, and I think building your own is a big part of what makes a desktop special. You just get a personal connection with how it's put together knowing every component that went into it, buying one pre-made just doesn't make much sense unless you really don't like the idea of working on an electronic.
