As I said earlier, for those who don't think he has the talent to win races, this will be their chance to be proved right, if they are right. This will be his first chance to drive with truly competitive equipment.

For sure! I bet he’s the winner for the entire series, for that “team”.

Single car team? Going to crash and burn hard, Jordan is going to feel the pain of losing a metric $hit ton of money real fast.

For sure, but his net worth is over $2B so I think he will not be missing any meals. That and with his name, he can command a shiit ton of excellent sponsorships. I guess we'll see.

IMO, from a business marketing perspective, it is a good move for Jordan's brand, since a lot of major brands see sponsorships with him as good exposure.

I wish Bubba well. He may have a better car and people, I don't know. If he does better at racing, good for him.

As usual with him, he is using race (not the kind normally associated with autosports) to define his career.

You are so full of sh!t it is funny. When I said I dont follow NASCAR, it does not mean that I dont know a lot about it. Hazard to say I have probably been at 50x the races you have ever been to, that is assuming you have been to at least 1.

I have been in the shops and know (currently) about 7 or 8 people that work for race teams in various roles. I still have my dusty scanner in a closet somewhere (I have only been to a couple of races since my kids came along but used to go to quite a few.) I bought enough materials with a company, I had an open invitation to their suite as CMS. But I have been tackside at Darlington and Bristol and had chicken bones thrown at me also...and after the race, I scraped the rubber of the left side of my face..

Move on... You instance to think you can research and come in and talk like an expert on things you know nothing about is a clear sign of your arrogance AND ignorance.

The cars are all the same. The races are won buy the crews and drivers. The crews are incredibly expensive. MJ can afford the best for now, but without wins he may not choose to keep affording it.

My rub w/ Bubba is and has always been he a race baiter. From the first day of his career in NASCAR Cup series, and the statement:

Tweet from 2017 when he first moved up.:
"There is only 1 driver from an African American background at the top level of our sport..I am the 1. You're not gonna stop hearing about "the black driver" for years. Embrace it, accept it and enjoy the journey.."

He has done a good job of ensuring the bolded. But prior to his 'noose' incident he was close to the most insignificant thing in NASCAR. I live in NASCAR country and had never even heard of him. He is A BEST a mediocre driver who rose to the ranks based on race. It is easy to see many others who out performed him in the lower levels of the sport that did not get moved up. NASCAR has been dying a slow death and as an organization they have been searching for a way to expand their audience.

Contrast Bubba with some of the true greats of sport who were 1/2 africian american. It is easy to think of Tiger Woods. A true champion of the sport, not a 'black' champion. He did not need to use his 'blackness' to define him. He let his performance define him. He was not defined by his race, and his greatness was earned on the course....not simply because he was 1/2 African American.

So Elrond decided to label me a racist, because I am very much against Bubba and what he represents. I also do NOT support BLM, an openly Marxist organization founded on a false narrative, created only to generate money and power for a political wing. So in todays america, not drinking the kool-aid makes on a racist.

Ahh, okay. There's plenty of mediocre drivers in NASCAR, but I guess we all pick our battles based on our life experiences. I like the guy, but I suppose I'm not really bothered by an AA using any means possible to get ahead. I had two AA roommates in college and I saw first hand what those guys had to put up with regarding racial bias. We hung out together quite a bit and I got a small glimpse of what it's like to be black in America. Anyway, I respect your opinion on the matter and appreciate the explanation.

ID has definitely been to Nascar races. The smell of the rubber stays with you for the rest of the day. Rubber chunks and dust is flung from the cars to the outside wall and into the stands. Your ears will ring for an hour after the race if you don't wear ear protection.

I live 10 miles away from the Bristol track. The 5 Vans RV airplanes used in the race flyover came over my house last Saturday evening. Usually they have modern jet fighters or WWII era P-51s for the Bristol flyovers.

For those unfamiliar with Nascar racing, Michael Jordan is not going to be funding the annual race budget of this team. Every team has multiple sponsors to pay the bills and supply the parts. Some have more than others.

I am just not a fan of politics in sport in general....but, if you are going to take the platform, at least EARN it. Take Labron James. I could not disagree with him on politics any more than I can, but I cant deny his ability to play the game. He has earned his position and his play speaks for itself.

In general I am not too big a fan of most 'activist' types. People looking for issues only creates more division. (Think Al Sharpton's of the world).

Anyway, appreciate the attempt to understand where I am coming from, instead of blindly labeling me 'racist'. Unfortunately, that has become the norm these days if one does not fully endorse some of the 'progressive' movements.

Been to Bristol too! Love short tracks. BEST racing to watch in person. Unfortunately, NASCAR sold out to the Super-speedways since there is more room for stands, advertisements, and everything is BIGGER. Most true fans, and many of the drivers seem to like the short tracks. MUCH more driver skill and WAY more 'rubbin'. Rubbin is racing!

As for the grime....boy you are not kidding. That oily gritty residue that ends up all over you. Would not trade it for anything! And of course, you have to at least once walk down to the fence and see the cars coming out of the corner down the straight. They started getting a lot more safety minded, and last time I was at a race, they only allowed people moving along to go down there. But back in the day, you could stand down on the fence and they did not bother you as long as you didnt park there. It is just a force to experience that you experience with ALL your senses. Really almost impossible to describe, but boy, it is a rush to see!

Tim Ferriss just released an interview with Jamie Foxx that you might like. He talks quite a bit about growing up in Terrell, TX as a black kid whose "granny" brought him up with the skills to (literally and figuratively) "cross the tracks."

Yeah, we know how you know all you need to know about everything. "As usual with him", you say, yet you were totally unfamiliar with him until this whole matter came up.

You pass judgements on people you know nothing about and have never communicated with, and then you think you are a better judge of talent and character than the professionals that deal with him on a daily basis.

For most of its history, there have been more Confederate Flags at NASCAR than African American drivers or crews. Those few African Americans who managed to involve themselves in the sport previously had to fight serious discrimination and deliberate obstacles thrown in their path. I respect that Bubba Wallace hasn't forgotten that legacy, and doesn't bow down to it. It's not like he entered a totally impartial arena where most were going to judge him purely on his merits. He's been 'in your face' about it, and that's why some don't like him. He won't lie down and take it quietly.

It may take 3-4 years with the new team for Bubba to win consistently. Or, he could end up like Danica Patrick, who had the sponsors and the team and was still unable to win.

No matter what, Michael Jordan is going to make money on this venture.
That's absolutely true. Some teams never quite gel, some hit the ground running. MJ and Denny Hamlin are not fools. They know what they're doing, and I wish them the best. I expect they'll do pretty well.

After the "noose" incident, I decided to learn a little about him. And it did not take long to see a person who was looking to take advantage of race to further his career. So when the comparison came to Smolette, it was actually quite fitting. Bubba used the situation to promote a false narrative which has catapulted his career. He is a modern day Tawana Brawley. The only thing missing is the sh!t under his fingernails.

    You're the classic Dunning-Kruger.
When outclassed you insult. You really are not all that smart buddy.

Did you say Dunning-Kruger? (honestly I did not know what that was prior to you using the term as I dont have any psychology background. Was double major Physics/Bio.) But boy...it sure fits you.

OK Elrond. You are now the aficionado of NASCAR. How many races have you been to? No lies....I know you like to fib now. You are like a walking comedy show. I almost feel bad, but you really do look kind of silly.

    Your mo.
-consistently make underhanded comments about posters intelligence.
-if you dont agree with their stance, insinuate they are somehow motivated by racism.
-When you get really frustrated, outright call people racists
-back pedal and pretend you are making a 'big brain' deep though analysis of the human condition.

You are completely full of sh!t, and proven to be an outright liar. When your 'big words' dont exactly hold up you start to hurl insults. I can guarantee you one thing. You have ZERO idea who your audience is, or who you are attacking. Like I said, I am smart enough to know how really dumb I am. I dont peg you as being truly intelligent. I mean, you might not be dumb...maybe above average...but I dont peg you as really smart. Even above average people are not that smart. Most very smart people I know have a decent sense of where others fit in. After all, a 'genius' trying to relate to an 'average' person, is about the same spread as an 'average' person trying to relate to a person who can be considered mentally disabled. But strangeness and lack of self-awareness can start to kick in above 150, and significantly higher above that, social skills go down the drain. I have met and interacted with a few people in my life that are smarter than myself. You dont seem like one of them. But I could be wrong. It might explain your personality deficiencies.

Closest thing that I have done to a Nascar shop visit was when I picked up this mint condition 4-way neck machine up from boys at the Roush/Fenway engine shop about 2 years ago. All of the Roush shops are located beside the airport in Concord, North Carolina just down the street from Charlotte Motor Speedway. The shop was really impressive even though the Roush teams results have been in decline the last few years.

Yep. When I used to run in the helicopter world, I use to mix with the NASCAR group a lot more. I was in and out of Concord a lot. My helicopter was based out of a smaller airport about 10min away by air. My mechanic did a good amount of work on some of the teams ships. Tony Stewart had a SUPER nice 407 and I think it was Hendrik that had an INCREDIBLE 430. Think this is a pic of it. I have been in that one, it is CRAZY nice.

I know or have known a few people who work in the shops. Actually knew (up until COVID hit) a guy who was a jack man for one of the teams. HUGE guy who incline benched 405 for reps!

Hard to be in this area and not be touched by NASCAR. Prior to the downturn, I owned a business that did a lot of work with a national company that had a VIP suite as CMS. It was nice, I could go to any race I wanted (free), drink beers and eat catered food, in a glass room overlooking the whole place. It did not dawn on me at the time that was a neat opportunity. But a good set of seats about 1/2 way up the track is more 'fun' to watch the race (if it is not too hot out). And whoever you are with has to be a fan. It is a lot to sit though. Heck I am not sure I could sit through the 600 at CMS. It's a night race..but even then. If you are not camping, when you get out of the race, you will spend another 3 hours trying to get out!

I used to love the all star races. Lots of fun, and you can bring someone who doest know a ton about racing and enjoy.

Now you got me thinking....need to look around to see who still has suites so I can maybe take my son to a race. I think in the stands might be too much for the first time. It get very confusing after lap traffic starts and you really have to follow the race, and be on a scanner to appreciate it. For hours on end.

Used to enjoy flipping back and forth between MRN and various teams spotters. It can be an engaging thing to watch for sure!

    OK Elrond......

Lets see....my assessment stands that Bubba Wallace is only known because he identifies as black. You however felt this was racist on my part. I stated he is AT BEST a lower pack driver who only got his spot because of the color of (1/2) of his skin.

Well lets see now. He has a ride with Jordan who has a full 'technical alliance' with Joe Gibbs racing. Lets see. Who is Gibbs racing other driver? Denny Hamlin. (or the #1 driver in NASCAR).

So it is safe to say he has access to the BEST equipment, crews and resources. What has bubba managed to do with this?

    17th at Daytona
    26th at Daytona Road Course
    22nd at Miami.

But the bright side is they may give him a "provisional" opportunity to qualify for the All-star race. Because that would only be "fair". He gets my vote for driver of the year!

So am I proved right as you say above?
