Does anyone here workout hard and have high ast/alt

I do not drink or use drugs. For years, i ve been working out and my yearly labs come back with high liver function tests (AST/ALT). I ve gone for ultrasounds and GI doc for a hole list of bloodwork, always came back negative.

Now again my LFT's came back elevated, does this happen to you guys? what range are your values in?

Pretty common. My understanding is slightly out of range in that context really isn't a big deal

    39/38

Last two tests for me. Reference range <40/44

If I workout hard the day before the blood draw, it often comes back just a bit out of range. If I rest for 2-3 days, it comes back high normal.

Like JK said, "pretty common," but I bet there are lots of GPs who don't know this.

See this thread. Lots of info on what you are looking for.

Wish the search at bb.com worked...had to use google to pull it up. I made this 6 years ago, but good info to have and even some things to bring to Dr if they are unfamiliar with treating people who train.

My liver enzymes have come back high a few times too but always come back down to normal range. I wouldn’t read to much into it as this stage.

Maybe the amount of protein us lifters consume plays a role.

Seems like this always happens to me when I go to the doctor and I haven't drank alcohol or done drugs in 17 years. Of course the GP always tries freaking me out with whole "you might have hepatitis" and all of these other weird things. One time they kept grilling me about drinking and I was getting pissed because I kept insisting that I've been sober for a long time and they didn't seem to take me serious.

I'm sure it's my diet, so I'm not too concerned with it.
