Anyone have any luck removing a 'charge off' from a credit card?

I have a charge off from a few years ago that is really holding down my credit score. Anyone have experience or strategies to getting this off my record?

I've had experiences with recent charges taken off by contacting the CC company customer service right away saying I didn't purchase so-so. If it's a charge from years ago, I highly doubt they'll take it off unless you have proof of the incorrect charge. I think the best bet is contacting the customer service...
