    Saving money with GF (reps)

So my GF and I have been putting equal money into a high yield savings account for the past two years but I have been thinking about other options that could potentially maximize our gains. We both have a 401K and Roth IRA already. Was thinking something along the lines of CD's, money market or bonds. Does anyone have input or previous experience with something like this for a couple?

    Inb4 ditch the GF.

At this point I do not see any need to touch it for the next 12 months. As with all finances, its important but these savings are mainly to fund our home improvements/trips/wedding.

We both have separate savings accounts and keep our finances separate for the most part. We originally set up the joint savings account so we could both contribute equal amounts every month and then have that money for another home, home improvements, trips, wedding, kids etc. This is just an additional $300/month that we've each been setting aside for those things. I have my personal finances in order. Also we have been together for 9 years so it's a little more serious that just some rando I just started seeing.

    1. If yall have been together 9 years, presumably live together, and are combining finances. Why haven't you married her? Under common law in a lot of places she may be entitled to half of your assets already. Might as well get the legal benefits of marriage.

    2. What's the timeline for spending the money? If its under 5 years I wouldn't invest it. If you have so much cash in there you are thinking about the 'gains' you can make. I'd say drop the contribution down to $50-100 each per month and put the excess in yall own investment accounts.

Or each cash out a lump sum to invest and continue contributing $300 per month to build it back up.
