Anybody else annoyed by how UFC churns out hype around fighters who vanish?

How many fighters have been hyped up by UFC to be the next big thing and are nowhere to be found?

Anthony Pettis, Sage Northcutt are among the first that come to mind for me.

Remember those two were being hyped up as the next coming, only to fade away pretty quietly.

The UFC is always trying to convince you that some nobody coming up is gonna be the GOAT because it's basically a revolving door for talent.

That's one thing I really don't like about UFC, unless you're a die hard fan you have no idea who 90+% of the fighters out there, and UFC trying to convince you the new guys won't be obscure in a couple years.

Ask Dana for a list of divisional GOATs and he'll just name all current champs LMAO.

While in reality only 1 current champ has somewhat of a claim.

Edit: Forgot about Jones so that's 1 extra, who is LHW goat for sure.

it's an absolutely brutal and unforgiving sport. It's insanely hard to get to the top, and even harder to stay there.

UFC obviously pushes the people they think will make them more money in the end. If it doesn't work out, there is a revolving door of talent. Just how their business model works.

Agreed on that last part. There's an easy 500 employees fighting in the UFC and we only hear about the top 10, 15?

But what I haven't been a fan of is Dana white chitting on the fighters he's been promoting as soon as they're done from the contract. He was all Wet for sage then when contracts(correct me if im wrong) couldn't be agreed, he went to ONE, got slept and Dana saying this sport aint for him?

then with paige, it was a gangsta party when she was winning, and after she finished out her contract, he's saying she was talking about not getting money and getting smoked in the 1st round? We needed to hear that from the boss? lol It's dana i get it but it just shows as you get closer to the door, there's no love for the years and money you gave em

Not annoyed at all. Someone always steps up. Every fight is a zero-sum game, winner takes the clout that the loser brought in with him.

I only have issues with the hype around one dimensional newcomers. Current and last years ones like Johnny Walker, Modestas Bukauskas, Jiri Prochazka etc. (lel'd @ all LHW)

You can't be only good at stand-up unless you're Ngannou.

I don't have anything against the hype of Sean O'Malley, Bryce Mitchell, Tom Aspinall, Movsar Evloev, Khamzat Chimaev etc. They all are very well rounded(bar O'Malley because who the f knows how his ground game or wrestling is)

Also Anthony Pettis has been in the game for a LONG ass time. When I was first dicking around with muay thai/mma back in the Matt Hughes era I was training at the same gym as Anthony Pettis. That stupidass gimmicky jump off the fence kick he pulled on Ben Henderson put him on the map, and he has competed pretty consistently after that but just aged/slowed up as all competitors do.

Pettis was a dynamic finisher but is not the best game planner and is always susceptible to be grinded out by pressure fighters too.

Exciting fighter though for the most part.

Vince McMahon watched his first ufc ppv after his son Shane, who was a big mma fan got him to.
    The ppv was Liddell/Rampage 2.

Vince watched it and said he could never promote mma because you can build someone up and then the wrong guy gets knocked out.

You all understand how it goes, and ultimately it hurts the brand as it makes it and Dana White look like a snake oil salesman promoting nameless fighters with near zero character, story or background for your entertainment. I imagine that's how non-MMA fans see it from afar

They don't invest anything into growing and promoting their fighters' brand, not even the active greats; I guess they don't see how that could make them money. Those clips that follow the fighters just 1 week before the event are garbage.

The only step in that right direction is the "fighters you should know" videos, as small as they are. It is very understandable why the UFC isn't growing in popularity as fast as it could, still growing fast though
