I bought Mazda 6 2019. Highly recommend this car if you love driver oriented sedans

Was a love at first test drive.

Sedans are really attractively priced these days as they are not popular but I always loved & will love sedans. I was never gonna buy a Toyota or Honda or Subaru..because I have some self-respect...but I also didn't wanna deplete cash on BMW or Audi. After research some people suggested Mazda as its a 'car enthusiasts' brand.

Mazda really surprised me as a brand...they make sporty cars but with lot of luxury. Reminded me of my older car BMW 5 series e60.

The torque is 310 lb-ft which is more than enough to make wheels spin if you step on it & merge on highways going from 30 mph to 70 mph with ease. The turbocharger gives it an athletic personality with nice heft to engine sound...otherwise 4 cylinders in general just sound sad.

the steering feels so good, entire car has nice clean dashboard with no plasticky rattling parts. Small touchscreen and real analog buttons is a win in my book.

Car is super quiet on highways, loaded with tons of safety features and very generous back seat legroom.
    heated leather seats, apple carplay.

If you are looking for a fun to drive adult sedan and dont wanna drop 50g on BMW or Audi...do give Mazda 6 a look. They are also planning to launch a RWD platform in 2022.

I agree but the driving dynamics were too impressive that I felt I could live with that plus car just looked sexy.
FWD is much better than RWD in winter anyway.

Test drove this car earlier this year, and I walked away because:

-Bose sound system is astonishingly awful.
-Engine doesn't feel smooth or pleasant.

When I got into my 2009 V6 Camry after the test drive I noticed how much superior are the V6 engine and the JBL sound system on my 10+ year old Camry.

2018+ Mazda 6 looks waaaaaaaay better than a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. The 6 looks much more refined and premium.

I just wish Mazda tuned the turbo engine with more top end power. All power is in the midrange and just dies off in the top end, but it's a great commuter car.

This might be my next daily driver in the next year or so.

    Enjoy the car OP.

The older mazdas had an issue with sound proofing and the gear shift lag. How does this one feel, any rattling at all, highway noise, crappy gear shifts that take 2 seconds?

It did have an awd version in europe at least in the last model. Back in 2016 I rented one over in Iceland. AWD diesel wagon, it was nice car. Handled dirt roads well but you'll still need a 4x4 for F roads.

My mom has the 2017 top trim version, before the turbo came out. I helped her pick it out, this was before the camry refresh so no brainer at the time.

    Pros:
stearing/handling is good - (for a budget midsized sedan, its not a sports car or anything)
simplicity/reliability - looks easy enough to work on, standard torque converter transmission no cvt, japanese style engine bay thats easy to move around in and not overly complicated like a european setup.
interior is pretty nice and upscale for its pricepoint
pricing was competative at the time for a top trim model with all the safety features when compared to camry and accord

    Cons:
doors feel light weight compared to my VW, door handles particularly feel light and cheap
infotainment screen and system is a mess
Bose speaker system sounds like chit and this is the high trim level "upgrade"
fuel economy is only so so for a 185hp car, probably because its a 2.5L non turbo, my VW GTI gets better mileage, but it does use the cheap 87 octane so probably cheaper than my GTI for overall fuel costs.

I would still consider one in 2020, Id have to look at the latest camry and accord to see if they improved enough over the last 3 years.

Road noise seems fine though the doors are lighter than european cars. no rattling. The transmission seems fine. A lot of competitors are using CVTs so I am just glad it is not one of them.

This thread is relevant to my interests

Mazda fan boi here. I'm currently driving my second consecutive Mazda 6 and will gladly buy another 6 when this one bites the dust. It's a 2010 with 141K on it, I've put 130K trouble free miles on it aside from routine maintenance items. I love Mazda, the way they handle, the way they drive and steer, they're easy to work on, and I think they just look sharp.

The soul red hatchback and 6 are the nicest cars in the mazda lineup imo. Never really digged Mazda's design language but they are nice cars though.

Its very quiet even at 90 mph on new york highways.
nothing rattles...center console is very firm and solid like BMW. Bose speakers even on bassy tracks dont cause any rattling door like on cheap plasticky cars. they seem to have done lot of work on acoustics because i also read about noise complaints on older models when doing my online research. Its also Made in Japan.

entire dashboard has soft material and real stitching.

like i said..i just loved the real luxurious craftsmanship the moment i sat in it...its a very european grand tourer feeling car.

Can confirm, Mazda is a great affordable "nice" car option. Last car was a Mazda 3 sedan lease (smaller version of the 6) - great car. Good mpg, and drove beautifully.

Always had a thing for the Miata and I love the redesign. Just not practical as a daily driver due to no cargo space.

Mazda fan boi here. I'm currently driving my second consecutive Mazda 6 and will gladly buy another 6 when this one bites the dust. It's a 2010 with 141K on it, I've put 130K trouble free miles on it aside from routine maintenance items. I love Mazda, the way they handle, the way they drive and steer, they're easy to work on, and I think they just look sharp.
very great to hear we have mazda owners in this sub section and good to know it can do tons of miles....I plan to drive it across the country in near future.
the turbo is really a huge improvement in sporty performance:

I am really looking forward to checkout inline 6 RWD platform...i might just get another mazda in 5-6 years or so.

Seriously who cares about the turbos. They only add more cost to the car and Mazda's arn't known for being a performance car. People need to drive cars on public roads how they are meant to be driven.

Wife drives a 2015 Mazda 3, love it. I like the idea of having a 6 but we'll probably look into a CX5 next. We had a Golf rental earlier this year and for a car that's supposed to be the gold standard for compacts, the 3 chits all over it.

OP have you ever driven a Mazdaspeed 6 or the Mazdaspeed 3?

Used ones are so reasonably priced now, I would even consider one of them as my next car.

Probably the best front wheel drive midsize one in its price range. Something rear wheel drive like the base Kia Stinger may be a better driver's car but it has much less interior room I think.
