Is it better to do dumbell front raises standing or seated?

If you have good form I'd say just pick one

If you struggle with form I'd say do them seated as this helps prevent rocking and hip motions that people often subconsciously do to help give the weight momentum.

Good to alternative between seated and standing versions of lifts that offer it (shoulder raises, lateral raises, shoulder press, etc).

Both have certain minor benefits, but yield similar results.

I don't think either of necessary for most people. If I did them, I think I'd do them standing so legs don't get in the way.

I prefer standing. Body is tightened for stability and I feel my abs getting worked with almost every standing exercise like front delt raises, bicep curls, tricep push downs etc.

Avoid swinging and momentum and there's little difference.

The better point to be made is to incorporate both free weights and cables when training all three delt heads.

    This.

To be honest tho, besides pressing, all my other delt work is cables (or pec dec RD fly). DBs have pretty poopy load profiles for delt training without creative setups

Yep that's definitely the goal of front raises. Great work.
In all seriousness though front raises have to be on of the most useless exercises. Front delts get punished with damn near every pushing movement and I don't think I've ever come across someone with disproportionately small front delts.

As easy as it is to overwork the anterior delts, why do front raises at all? Seems like the time and energy would be better spent on posterior or lateral head.

This - so many people in the gym (particularly guys) have kyphotic posture from too much pressing and not enough pulling. Adding a bunch of front delt isolation is only going to exacerbate the problem.

If you’re doing plenty of OHP, benching, incline etc your front delts aren’t going to lag. For rear delts, you need alot of horizontal pulling - think rows. Vertical pulls (pull-ups, pulldowns, etc) also contribute to rear delt development but they’re generally inferior to horizontal pulls for keeping the rear delts up to par with the front.

As for lateral delts...don’t forget the radiant effect they get from the rest of your pushing and pulling exercises. I rarely isolate lateral delts anymore. I’d rather do more OHP. People have these bizarre ideas about OHP being only a front delt exercise. Not only does it work the *entire* delt, but it works the triceps (emphasis on the long head - guess which head tends to lags the most?), traps, upper chest, lats and core. One caveat though - you must do a full range of motion to get the full benefits. Each rep begins from a deadstop on the upper chest (cleavage shelf) and ends with the arms fully locked out overhead and the shoulders shrugged.
