Best DIY Emmulator or prebuilt for kids 5-9yo? 180k reps

Since Super Nintendos are fukkin $500 from COVID, anyone built a home setup recently?

I saw this thread https://igoodies.000webhostapp.com/?viagra=showt...41&pagenumber= earlier and has me questioning if buying a kit based on Raspberry Pi4 is the best way to go.

Kids would be playing it on a 5yo 55" LCD TV, HDMI and A/V inputs available.

I have a HTPC running Win10 connected to the TV, not sure if it's better to just buy some USB controllers? Main thing is keeping it simple for them to use and pick games.

They have entire images you can download. Pi and playstation mini are both pretty popular. You burn the image and everything is on it already set up.

If you want to use the PC, you can have it configured to launch from steam or kodi. You could either install a multisystem type of emulator like retroarch or emulation station or just install a single emulator like snes9x if you want it simpler.

The biggest annoyance with the images is sometimes it might be hard to back out of an emulator to the main menu and you might just have to reboot the whole thing. But it is a lot less trouble to setup.

Recently built a pi 3 snes setup, could run other systems too if you want, think the pi was like 50 bucks on ebay with the case, power cord, hdmi, etc, and got this controller https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWD8QQJ for 40 bucks, its discontinued but there are a lot of similar ones out there, if I was doing it again I'd go wireless.

It took about twenty minutes to download the software and set it all up and works pretty good.

Where are you getting the image? There official retropie hosted images won't have any games on them but it looks like there are torrent images out there.

yes torrents of complete images with everything setup. especially helpful for mame because anytime I tried to install romsets from scratch with mame it never seems to work, it has to be specific romsets for specific versions of mame, config files, all that crap and never seemed to work right unless i use something someone else setup.
