Every decade I build a new PC, opinions on the most swole 10900k build?

I snagged a 10900k at minimal markup and now need to actually put the rest together. The focus is 99% gaming, 1% other and I'm holding back on the GPU since the 3080ti is going to be out in a few months and that's where my money is going

bearing that in mind, what modo/memory/other combo would you go if you were looking to build a high end gaming PC? I was thinking one of the ASUS ROG z490 mobos but beyond that I got nothing

I don't care about AMD blah blah, I'm looking for a 5.3g OC if possible thats rock solid stable and can push my upcoming 3080ti for the next 5 years at least

So you're an elitist when it comes to your CPU but don't know enough to source good memory, mobo, etc? Lmfao. K.

    Edit: Also, AMD>Intel.

Lmfao at paying $400+ for a CPU that gets 5% better FPS than a $250 CPU.

Very useful, repped for helpful post. I make way too much money to care about negligible savings on a cpu that I'm going to keep for at least 5 years.

I went with the rog maximus xii hero and 32 gig of corsair 4000, still trying to decide on which m2 ssd

I wish you had posted this before you bought the CPU to be honest. Maybe with Rocket Lake things will change but, for now, I'd take AMD over Intel in the platform (CPU, Motherboard, RAM) space.

On the SSD - I can recommend the Samsung 970 Pro for your current hardware setup.

I'm waiting on the 3080Ti/single gpu king later this year too, and a serious monitor to boot.

This is why I just buy a console, don't need to worry about any of this. Maybe graphically I'm a little behind, but I don't really give a chit.

GL with the PC build. I did one by myself when I was in Middle School for chits and gigs from like youtube videos. Computer was solid but when it became obsolete I just bought a MacBook Pro lol.

Either way, even on the FPS side of things, I plan to play at 4K. I'd love to see the benchmarks there where any game is really CPU bound, heh.

Even at 1440, the difference a CPU makes is so minimal. Its still dumb to pay $400 for a CPU for gaming, no matter how much money you supposedly make. It's money wasted. Period. If you're buying a high end CPU for work loads and need a 3900X, Threadripper, etc, that's another story.
Gaming at 1440 or higher, you can get 95% of the performance a $500 CPU will deliver with a $220 3600X.

since they're going for over a grand with a markup I'm happy not to enrich a scalper.

Samsung 970 Pro would be great if it came in 2tb, I'm going to fill that very quickly, is there that much difference between that and a 970 evo in real terms?

If you're not doing massive amounts of writes or anything and really using it for gaming only - the evo is fine. I have a small array of SSDs in my setup and simply allocate drives based on what I intend to store. I save my 970 Pro for OS and AAA games.

On the scalping - last one that bit me was with the PS3. I paid a small fortune to get one for my brother's birthday. I'll probably have to do it again for the PS5, but we'll see.

I never want to reward chitty behavior and the people who bought up all the 10900ks and resold them at double price are the absolute definition of chitty

I'm wondering actually if I should go higher on the memory, the 4400 and above start getting a bit silly. I'm trying to stay under 5k total including the 3080ti but if going higher is worth it I guess I can

Unless you're interested in running synthetic benchmarks online, I'd probably be quite happy even at 4, but with tight timings. If you're not into spending hours testing timings yourself you'll have to fork out a bit but the XMP setting on a nice kit might be more than enough already.

I'd get 2 monitors, one 4k 144hz and one 1440p 144hz. The reason being, I don't think even the 3080ti will be able to push 144fps on 4k on high on some games, so you'll want to switch over to the 1440p for some games. I recommend LG ultragear or the Asus ROG for 4k 144s but the problem will be supply. Example: https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27...gaming-monitor

Also fkin lmao at the povertycels trying to save OP a hundred dollars by switching to AMD and give up 5-10% FPS. I can't tell if they are trolling.

Gaming at 1440 or higher, you can get 95% of the performance a $500 CPU will deliver with a $220 3600X.
But if you buy the $220 CPU you aren't getting that extra 5-10% in performance until you replace it. OPie clearly wants something top of the line that will last him as long as possible. If he has the extra money, I see nothing wrong with CPUmaxxing.

If you're gonna CPUmaxx you might as well monitormaxx with the new 3080ti and get https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-38...gaming-monitor

Also if money is no issue even if it means 1% performance difference then 970 pro over evo

On the SSD, sure. But if 1% performance mattered he would have gone for a Ryzen PCIE4 system too, and bought a 980Pro later this year (for a lot more than 1% over a 970 pro).

And that monitor unfortunately isn't monitormaxxing. Check the TFTCentral review - I'd never spend money on a monitor like that. But I'd drop thousands no problem on a PG32UQX if it lives up to its specs, and I think it will clock in around 3500 USD.

If you're just shelling out money, just go for the most over the top parts you can imagine. Not as if you're trying to squeeze performance/dollar, so it won't matter.

Also, why not wait for the new releases coming around the corner?

I need a PC asap because my current dinosaur home PC is starting to fail. I can get a temp 2070 super or something and sell that when the 3080ti comes out

I also need something capable of running modern games at a high fps for reasons beyond just enjoying gaming lol

Literally nothing in your post has anything to do with current Ryzen CPU's.

If you want to justify paying more for 5% performance, it's all good brah.

    OP - I suggest waiting till Q4 2020 / Q1 2021.

We're at the end of the current gen PC component lifecycle and that's the last time you want to buy. Next-gen components will come out, making current gen motherboards incompatible (depending on CPU-Mobo setup), current gen components will be on sale, and better performance can be acquired.

At the very least, wait until AMD's Zen 3 (Ryzen 4000) CPU series comes out this year, and wait for NVIDIA's RTX 3000 series to launch.

As far as Intel vs AMD... right now the i9-10900k chits on AMD's CPU offerings for gaming as far as performance, but AMD's CPU offerings chit on Intel's CPUs for non-gaming functionalities and price. AMD's Zen 3 might offer better gaming performance than Intel's current gen, and it might have PCI-e 4.0 support and DDR5 support (both of which Intel doesn't have yet). Those things will be juicy to have for someone wanting to future proof their machine, entering the new line of tech for the decade.

Yup obviously there's always something better coming out, and buying a 2080ti at the end of its life for nearly full launch price would be retarded RN but I need a new high end PC pretty urgently.

I've got an amd 3700x and a 9700k. The 9700k is by far more steady in fps in games that tend to have dips due to the cpu like ESO, fallout 76, borderlands 3, etc. Intel gaming can be a smoother experience. If you legitimately only care about games, intel is the way for now.
