Im a Physician Assistant, but i want to augment my income and prepare for the worst

I am a primary care PA working in a clinic. I like my job but a couple things bother me

    1. Its not internationally recognized. What if the US becomes a 3rd world hellhole/collapses. I cant move to another country and practice like a doctor could no matter how good my skills are. I feel like i am super dependent on a fragile system.
    2. It is potentially vulnerable to legislation that may limit our clinical abilities and make us unhireable, especially compared to nurse practitioners. I seem to be the only one who has anxiety about this lol. The PA profession is only 60 years old. Its not a "default" profession like a doctor, craftsman, businessman, trader, construction worker which kinda exist naturally based on human needs. Whos to say its not just a fad? What if public opinion changes and people only want to see real doctors? Everyone thinks in crazy when it comes to this point.

I am an anxious person by default and this may be excessive and unrealistic anxiety, but i want to better myself and become truly independent. Im happy now making 90k with an easy schedule, but i dont want to be in for a rude awakening in the future.

I want to have a safety net income wise that will allow me mobility, whether that is in the medical field or unrelated. I am not business savvy at all so i dont know where to begin.

Does anyone have thoughts or suggestions?

Diversify yourself a little bit. I am a nurse practitioner and I don't even use my independent practice right now. Why are you doing primary care? Emergency Medicine, Ortho, Psychiatry can all pay 140ish or even more. Branch out and do psych then after 2000 hours of direct care you are eligible for the psychiatry certificate for PA-C and telepsych has been paying $75-125/hour from home lately.

I currently do urgent care and make as much as $15k a month with bonuses if its a great month and am doing my psych cert this fall just because its so lucrative but I have to take 4 classes and do 540 hours of free work to obtain mine while you can work while you get yours.

Knock out 2 years of primary care just to establish yourself, go to Vegas for a weekend and do the Emergency Medicine Bootcamp while partying at night to reward yourself, get an urgent care or ER job. Locums also pays alot more than employee positions so look into 1099 locums jobs.

I do pre-employment drug screens in a clinic. The majority of them are travelling contractors coming to my town to short term maintenance/repair jobs in a refinery. I rent out furnished houses by the week to the contractors. A motel room with 2 beds is $400 a week here. I rent out 3 bedroom houses for $600 a week, they have full kitchens and a washer/dryer. Before Covid, there were 73 contractors in all my places. When the dust settled, I had 2. It's picking up, have about 15 now.
