    Basic Laptop Recommendations - 2020

Looking to buy a new laptop. Currently using my companies laptop.

I'm looking for something portable, reliable, long lasting. Obviously I don't want to pay more than I have to.
This is not for gaming but if it runs games that's cool too.
Mostly I'd use this computer for saving photos/documents, browsing youtube, miscing, email, etc ... Pretty basic stuff.

Does misc have any recommendations or know of any good deals going on?

https://www.newegg.com/acer-aspire-5...82E16834316900 screen could have been better though, and it's not out yet. 4000 ryzen laptops are supposed to be really good for $600 or less. some will have 1080p screens.

Thanks dude, that looks promising. Waiting till late June is no problem for me. My only concern is that acer doesn't have the best reputation.
I had an acer in college and it worked pretty well until I sat on my backpack senior year with the laptop inside. It stopped working after that!

I'll do some more research and update this thread when I've made my decision.

Basic web chit can be handled by a chromebook easily. Cheap and lightweight laptops. If you need to run more resource hungry software like video editing, chromebook obviously isn't gonna be the best choice. Storing photos/videos can be done on the cloud so long as you aren't going into the dozens of gigabytes. Privacy breaches aren't common, and you're even more less likely to get hacked if you practice good password hygiene and diligence on the web. Of course not storing sensitive data on the cloud is also another method of risk mitigation.

here are two more. the ryzen 5 version comes with a hard drive, while the 7 comes with a faster ssd. also very well priced, and higher resolution screens, but not ips.

For laptops, I recommend getting the absolute cheapest you can get with a large screen that does basic stuff. Laptops are just the last resort for when you aren't home and need to do some quick browsing.

Use the money saved on a good desktop. Buy a good CPU and GPU. Because honestly, working on pictures, movies, and games requires a very strong system.

With an expensive laptop, you skimp out on so many things and laptops have reliability problems. Think about it, if a desktop requires a hulking large cooler just for the CPU, how the fk is a small laptop suppose to last? It doesn't. Thats why $3000-$5000 apple laptops overheat ALL THE TIME.

    Update:

Got the chromebook last night and the phone today.
Verdict: both good products if you don't mind google spying on you

chromebook: Toshiba quality is good, sturdy frame, good sound, respnosive mousepad for when you want to scroll without randomly scorlling, good for the basic chit, opens main screen very quickly and has long battery life, better than the previous machines I've used for the same chit

phone: good but that's obvious since I was on an ancient iphone, feels good with nice sized screen without being overly bulky, good sound, no issues yet, better than my iphone5
