    Best performance SUV?

So, my dads lease is coming up very soon and he's (well, I am, LOL) looking for a new SUV. Right now he drives a Alfa Stelvio, which is well let's just say OK, and that's being nice.

I figured it's time to up performance and quality and look at some performance SUVs.

    There are a few I like; BMW X3M, BMW X4M, GLC 63 Couple, and a Macan S.

Out of all these 3 I'm kinda leaning towards the BMWs since I think price for performance seems to be the best out of the others.

    What would you guys pick.

I don’t know your dad..but if I was your age I would get the bmw. At his age, I’d go for the Mercedes. Those glc63 are amazing machines. Nice interior and amazing butter smooth transmission. It also has a ton of power, I think it’s the fastest of your group as well.

In that price/size range it would be the X3M or Macan S, maybe a lightly used Macan turbo.

Higher up it's the RSQ8, cayenne turbo, maybe the RS6 if a wagon is okay, etc.

We have a 2016 Cayenne GTS and its extremely well put together, comfortable when driven comfortably, and a blast to drive when driven harder.

The S level trim on the Cayenne and Macan can have a HUGE range of options. You could have a stripper that is frankly unimpressive, all the way to full leather dash with alcantara and pano roof, sport exhaust, etc...

Not sure if he has to lease new, but if looking at Porsches I'd buy a year or two old CPO turbo or GTS which is going to be optioned out the ass.

yeah X3M/X4M is a beast, if I was in the market for a SUV in that price range it would be it, really. A used macan turbo would be the other one I'd look for.

How's your Porsche been reliability wise? I have a 2016 911 GT3 RS and it's been perfect despite 95% track use. I'm a real big fan of Porsche products.

So far its been perfect (knock on wood). Ours is fully optioned with full leather (even the door panels are all leather) and the fit and finish is outstanding.

I had an old first generation Cayenne S that was a major pain in my ass holes. But they got it right after that.

The 958.2 Cayennes only have one common well documented issue. The transfer case vent gets infiltrated with water, the water displaces the oil until the transfer case eventually eats itself and fails. Porsche considered the transfer case fluid "lifetime" so instead of exploring the possibility that the fluid had degraded, dealers just replaced entire transfer cases (at $5,000 a pop and billed to Porsche)....all fine and dandy until the cars started getting out of warranty. Then of course the Porsche community online (rennlist and renntech websites, namely) figured out what was happening and everyone started changing their transfer case fluid out every other oil change and solved the problem. So I am pretty confident we can put some more major miles on the car. Its got 70k now and no problems.

'mirin a GT3 RS. That is some major "toy money" for something that is not even a daily driver lol.

I've been toying with the idea of a 911 for a daily driver but I can't decide if it would be too small.

From a strictly performance per dollar standpoint then the Trackhawk is a clear winner. I briefly toyed with getting one when I was getting rid of my 2014 Jeep SRT earlier this month. You can get them for under $80k new, which is pretty crazy. They certainly won’t be a luxury as the German sport SUV’s, but they still are very nice on the inside. (I ended up getting a 2020 TRD Pro 4Runner).

For a true luxury sport SUV, I would get the Cayenne or AMG GL-whatever.

If it has to be German, I’d go Porsche, they seem to be among the more reliable German brands. If it doesn’t have to be German, I’d go Grand Cherokee SRT or Trackhawk or Durango SRT with a 3rd row delete. Right now the only Ford I would consider is the Flex with the twin turbo 3.5 V-6 and AWD. Other than those, and a weird sorta interest in the 2011and new Dodge Journey with the 3.6l V-6 and AWD.........I really could care less about plus sized station wagons.......

Honestly I haven't owned a "performance SUV" to really have a expert opinion. I know the few Opie mentioned are nice at the very least

But.. have had some seat time in a modded TrackHawk and it was pretty goddamn impressive from the driver seat. I personally have a hang up with Dodge from years back so the chance I will over own one is slim to none but... will give credit where credit is due..

Also , I did put the wife in a AWD Ford Explorer sport with a 3.5L Eco back in 2018 (before the ST was debuted).. tune & CAI completely transformed the driving experience. Obviously it couldn't touch a TrackHawk in the HP department but it was a really well rounded every day vehicle IMO..

That said it appears as if you are looking for something a little "higher end" but if I were you Opie I would at least go sit your a$$ down in both of them.... you never know.. might surprise you and save some money

FKn lol @ performance suv. Thats about the silliest thang ive read since being back from banned camp.

First of all, suvs are heavy as fk. You are constantly fighting your own weight.

Second, the amount of money you have to spend to move all of that weight is ridiculous.

    brb

    -v6
    -v8
    -turbocharged
    -supercharged
    -80K+
    -subpar performance

If you want a good performance, good looking suv, somewhat affordable, Id look into the Chevy Blazer RS.

    Macan out of your list

Cayenne turbo is where you want to be. It outperforms all of the other options and the only SUV with adjustable ride height and locking diffs

Yup. You can damn near track a Cayenne Turbo. And being turbo it's a tune away from another 100hp

I would actually go with the alfa romeo stelvio. Also gorgeous car and a little different from other cars on the road is a bonus.
