    Ed Wallace: KIA Telluride Review

Drinking coffee with the morning news on and caught Ed's review for the latest Ford Escape. Reminded me that I like his reviews.

One of the top results was for the 2020 Telluride. Clicked through and I believe it may be the most glowing review I have ever heard from him.

I like the Hyundai Palisade even more. I believe it's available with more options. Yes I know, same platforms.

I almost bought the telluride sx... Just couldn't justify $50k on a Kia though. I really liked it. But when the first thing people are doing is removing the emblems because they're embarrassed they have a Kia, it didn't sit well with me. Nothing but awesome reviews though. Oh and the other thing was that dealers were marking up prices. Hell no.

    wut this is a review?

if he isnt looking at the under carriage for 10 minutes of the video with Scott Turbowski I dont want to watch it. This is a poverty ass review.

Also doesnt give me one reason I would want to pay an extra 10-14k for this kia over a top spec'd Mazda CX-5. Cant I get a lexus SUV for 46k or have those gone up even more now that KIAs are 46k.

Those cars you mentioned are more in line with a Kia Sorento size wise. (CX-5 and Lexus NX) The RX 350 is on par with a Telluride size wise but will be deep into the 50s if you match options - but likely would be worth the extra $$ honestly as Lexus quality/longevity/resale is tried and true.

Not going to bash it, it's nice, and of course it's starting at $46K. It's also brand new. They're all nice brand new. Go look at a 10+ year old Hyundia/Kia and then go look at a 10+ year old Lexus and tell me which one is holding up better.

About the same as a low end Toyota. Of course Lexus will be nicer after 10 years, it's a luxury car.

Those ratings were based on when they were new. I used to recondition used cars at a dealership and I'll tell you the Camry is going to be a much nicer car after 10 years. The Sonata is probably on it's 2nd or 3rd engine. Think about this, you see 2010 Camry's all of the time. You see lots of new Kia/Hyundia vehicles but not many old one's.

I truly doubt it. Hyundai wouldn't offer a 10 year warranty if they had to replace the engine on their cars 3 times over that warranty period. I also see old Hyundais and Kias all the time. And again over the life of the cars I posted above, Toyota, 8 recalls, Hyundai, 2 recalls. That's a significant difference. Also, look at the dates of the recalls, Toyota's last recall was in late 2016, so those ratings aren't just for when the cars are new.

The dealer next to the one I work at is a Hyundia dealer. Several techs have left ours and went there. Yes, they are replacing engines quite a bit. When you build them real cheap, they are cheap to replace. Anyways, that warranty only goes to the original buyer, if you buy one used, it's 5/yr 60K. Recalls doesn't mean that much. Some companies are more dedicated to taking care of their cars, some only do a recall if it's mandatory. A lot of them are customer satisfaction recalls. Toyota has a better name than Hyundia/Kia. Totally different customer base. As well, look at the used car prices on those same cars. There is a reason the Toyota holds it's value better. If you want to argue integrity and logevitry and say that Hyundia and Toyota are equals, most people will laugh at you.

5Y/60k is almost twice what Toyota offers. I'm not saying Hyundai is better than Toyota, but it's pretty damn close. There was a time when Toyota was the inferior, there was a time when Lexus was the inferior choice. We'll see how Hyundai ends up in the next 5 years or so. I may be biased because I recently bought a $55k Kia, but like I said, we'll see.

Also, an engine is an engine, I doubt Hyundai is making their engines any cheaper than anyone else does, especially when some of those engines are hitting 700hp on stock internals. Plus regardless of what the engine costs, the labor is similar. It just doesn't make much sense to build something that will break, and then offer such a long warranty.

5/60 is pretty much standard powertrain. Anyways, not saying the Kia/Hyundia are peices of junk. Probably best bang for the buck honestly. The money you save will more than make up for it. Your 55K Kia you are probably getting overall a 80K vehicle, 100K if you went to Mercedes. As far as an engine being an engine, not even close. However, being the cheaper manufacturer with easier financing, you have a generally lower customer base who don't take very good care of their cars so it makes them look bad because nobody will admit that they forogot the change the oil for 20K miles when their engine locks up, no the engine is just a POS.. Most cars on the road are neglected. Cheaper the car the worse it is.
