    Question Post Labrum Surgery questions

Hello there! I Had a bankart (anterior labrum) repair 3 weeks ago. I had 2 anchors put in the right labrum. I have been in an immobilizer sling, and will be for 3 more weeks. I was given the go ahead to go back to work at my desk job. I don’t wear the sling at work because it is propped up on my arm chair and I sit there Typing all day. I don’t wear it when I go to get coffee/restroom breaks, and I’m very diligent not to move it/open doors, etc. But today after using the restroom I was pulling up my arm sleeve to wash my hand and I felt a pretty good pinch in the repaired arm (NOT A POP). Wondering if this is something I need to be concerned about? It’s not Terrible pain, but it has been lingering. Basically wondering how easy it is to retear the repaired labrum? And if this is something I need to be concerned about?

Have you had a similar experience? This is my first labrum repair, so it’s hard to tell if I just irritated it or completely retore the tissue? I’m obviously very easily paranoid lol

Your Ortho should have given you the number of his nurse, call him/her. Wear your arm sling more for another couple of weeks - ie. whenever you leave your desk. The first 6-8 weeks post op are the most critical for letting the repair heal, after that your PT will be about getting it loose enough and strong enough to function properly.

Always consult with your Ortho if possible, but in a vast majority of cases you are fine. I had a SLAP tear repaired 4.5 years ago and went through a similar minor scare; however, nothing was inherently wrong (I can be kind of a hypochondriac too). The biggest thing that my ortho stressed was to make sure you do not fall on your injured arm (where a majority of re-tears occur in the beginning stages of the recovery process).

As sowilson mentioned above, this is the most crucial time in the healing process, so protect your shoulder, but I wouldn't worry much about this.

yes, I had one and then it got destroyed in a car wreck 3 months after surgery so I had to have another one. When the repair fails you're going to hear the sutures popping and it hurts like chit.

It's understandable to be paranoid, this surgery sucks and you feel super vulnerable. It's been 3 years since my last one and I still get paranoid about retears, but as of my last scope in August last year it was still holding strong
