Is 800 cals of ice cream and a protein bar an acceptable dinner?

What are your thoughts on eating junk IIFYM?

It basically has nothing nutritional except sugar and a bit of protein from the protein bar.
It's fine for one day, it's not optimal if you eat it every day.
You need carbs, vitamins protein etc. If you had 2 cups of rice with a 200 gram steak, you'd be getting a lot more nutrition from the same amount of calories.

Every day? I would advise not... that’s a lot of refined sugar and saturated fat to consume every day.

800 calories spread over a few days would be better. 200 calories on ice-cream giving you 600 calories to get in more nutritious foods to have for dinner.

Plus, the other foods will fill you up more.
I have a good joke about water retention. But I'm going to hold onto it for now.

I'm not an elevator, but I certainly do lift.

Going to the gym? Ha, it's just a weights of time.

Steroids and ass. They certainly go well together.

Just a newbie but I've been dealing with cheat meals like this. Here are my thoughts:

    - If I ate this I would take it as an opportunity to lift hard the next day. You should consider that all that sugar will for sure fill up your glycogen stores. Like carb-loading. This means you should expect to have access to more energy and endurance the next day, which is perfect for really working any/every body part through heavy lifting.

    - By comparison, if you work out consistently and eat a clean version of all your meals, you can expect your glycogen stores to be pretty depleted, especially if you eat low-carb low-calorie - so in comparison, if your dinner were grilled vegetables and chicken breast, the next day you couldn't lift as long and heavy.

So take it as a way to do even better on your lifts.

Source: I do cheat meals like this and I lift the day after I do something like that, and seem to have energy and good results, and it fits my research and what athletes like runners do the day before events. (Runners try to keep a very low body weight, to the point where some of them are practically anorexic, but as far as I know they still carb-load the day before events.)

If you do it every day your glycogen will be too full all the time and your body will want to store some of it as fat in my opinion.

please note that I am not a nutritionist, all this is based on my approach and what seems to work for me.

this is almost like my go-to "cheat meal": a huge tub of low cal ice cream (340 calories, maybe 20 grams of protein) and a noodle cup that's around 400 calories. strangely enough, it filled me up way more than rice and chicken...

Sounds fine with me I regularly go out for an ice sundae which is probably a lot more then 800 calories. Even during my last cut I would enjoy the occasional sundae throughout the week maybe once every few months as long as you hit your protein and within your caloric level I see no problem for your goals.

yeah it was a pint, to me it's huge considering how little calories you end up eating. i see it as a "cheat meal" (again, quotation marks) because it's not something i could imagine fitting in a healthy DAILY diet. it's more of a weekly indulgence, i see it as something in between "real" food and candy. might be horribly wrong here but that's how i see it...

I mean the low calorie ice cream is just milk, sweeteners, and protein added... most of them are fairly low fat... tons of people eat a pint almost every day. I don't, but that's mainly because theres a lot of sugar alcohol which would kill my stomach. But again, it's not really something most people shouldn't be able to 'fit in'... it's only about 15 of fat, 60-70g of carbs, and 20g of protein... that's pretty easy.

I don't use the term 'cheat meal' either because I think it's silly (I just say I 'indulged' or 'overate')... but, in the event I go outside my normal routines, it's something like an appetizer + main course + dessert meal out... and usually far higher in calories...

Also, if you're someone who is tracking macros, then I don't think eating something like Halo Top is really 'cheating' if it fits..

I think people wouldn't eat it everyday because variety tastes better. for carbs your could get bread rice pasta oats instead of the same ice cream (okay I get there are dif falvors) everyday

agreed, a pint of low cal ice cream is really easy to fit in and even beneficial for curbing hunger in my experience. i just thought it would be unhealthy and processed for whatever reason. theoretically, if i ate cup noodles and halo top once a day, do you think it would interfere with any gains if my other meals are "normal" (think rice/chicken/veggies combo)?

another question, why is it that the noodle ice cream thing fills me up a lot more than rice and chicken? i could probably eat it three times a day on a cut and not be hungry at all, it just seems weird to me...

Possibly (depending on the brand) because the ice-cream has more fat than rice and chicken (once again, depending on how you make it).
