    DB Squats to BB Squats

    Hello,

I have been using dumbbells for squats, as I own these and only occasionally work out in a location that has barbells. I do these squats with the dumbbells at my sides. The weight I use challenges my legs but not quite with my grip strength. I have never barbell squatted before, but if I do decide to do it I was wondering if there is an approximation for about how much weight I would be able to use. Meaning, if I can do do DB squats with 100 total pounds, would I realistically be able to BB squat around that amount, or whether it would be more likely to vary up or down.

    Thanks

Typically you'll be able to lift more with a barbell variation than a db one. Benching for example, you should be able to BB bench more than the total of 2 dbs, so if you bb bench 225, you might do db bench with 90s.

If you squat using 2 50lb dbs, I'd start with 30lb of plates on each side, which would come out to 105 with the bar. Adjust based on how it feels.
