Cannot see abs no matter what I do

As a 19 yr old male I am 6ft and 160 pounds. I recently managed to reduce my waist circumference from 35 to 30 inches and now have 11% body fat. However even though I trained abs everyday for about a month in addition to weight training, I still see no progress. Do I need more abdominal muscle thickness or is it just my genes? Do I need to reduce even more weight to cut my waist size? I dont wanna look like a mummy

Add pictures to your bodyspace and tell us when they are there. My GUESS is that your issue is lack of muscle, not too much fat.

Will do so. Is that possible? I thought once your body fat % is low enough your abs start to appear. But going below 160 pounds as a 6ft male sounds overboard although my BMI is 22 and the underweight boundary begins below 18.

Edit: btw you got a really nice body. If you dont mind me asking: What is your body fat % and waist size?

BMI means very little. It's a blunt tool.

If you don't have enough muscle, you won't be lean at 160 - you need to focus on muscle gain because the alternative is to look like a scarecrow at ~130-140. Abs are not everything.

Realize that a month of training equates to almost no change. Muscle growth takes time... abs do generally respond well to training... heck, they don't even necessarily need their own training depending on what other work you do, as they get engaged with basically every other lift. I've had to stop most ab training to avoid getting blocky in the middle (being a woman, that isn't the stage look I'm after)

A few things to consider with abs... most mentioned above, BF needs to be low enough. Muscle mass needs to me high enough. The other piece is good ole' genetics. Your 'abs' actually being one muscle there... you could find a 6 pack, 8 pack, 5 pack, 1 pack, etc. There's tendons that cross the muscle that define how you will ultimately look. You don't get to change that part of it. I've seen people on stage with obvious mass, with obviously low enough BF, with no obvious 6 pack.

If you were dieting down and training abs expecting them to grow you’re doing it backwards. You need to be in a calorie surplus to grow muscle in any appreciable amount and abs are no different plus a month on top of that is just not enough time.

Here's a truth I came across a long time ago: We train everything else with weight, but when it comes to core, very few people incorporate anything other than body weight.

As others pointed out, I'm not saying size will fix your problem, but it's worth incorporating since you can't see anything right now anyway.

I agree Commitmentrulz looks great, but you're asking the wrong question about his body - which shows why you're mixed up about abs...it's not about body fat/waist size - he looks good because he spent (I'm assuming) a long time growing muscle. It's the combination of muscle growth and low body fat that gives abs and other muscles definition.

Lol it's not like he never lifted weights and then just cut some body fat and looked like that.

This. I'm 6' 4" with a 35" waist. No idea of body fat. WEIGHTED cable crunches and cable woodchoppers were standards for me. Been working out (lifting) for 25+ years consistently.

    Thanks for the compliments btw!
