    Volkswagen arteon or Kia Stinger

After extensive research I've found the ball park cars I am considering purchasing

Below are 2 cars, the arteon and the stinger. Thoughts and opinions on both? I am aware the arteon is probably a lot better car, but the stinger is a bit cheaper, newer plus has that Kia 7 year warranty

    (Hopefully the links work)

both really nice looking vehicles. Arteon is a budget A7 imo, and the stinger is the best looking performance sedan in its price range by far

The real stinger is the GT with the twin turbo V6.

The arteon doesn't even look good lol. Idk how people think (not in this thread but in general) that the car looks better. It just looks like a passat on steriods.

Even though they're both 2.0 4 bangers, i honestly would pick the stinger over the vdub.

Can't beat kia's warranty. Plus i actually drove a stinger. I "ALMOST" leased that instead of my charger SP. The fit and finish is amazing. And the tech they put into the car is incredible. It actually felt like benz like. Almost.
Schooling everyone that has to do with automotive one brah at a time. It's tiring but someone gotta do it lol

I have a manual car but auto IS WAY BETTER THESE DAYS. ACCEPT THE FACTS BRAHS! LOL

    test drive both?

I have a feeling the stinger would be more sporty and have a stiffer suspension. Ive driven neither but that seems like what kia is targeting there versus the vw.

But isn't the difference only like 7k?

I think the GT starts at 39 or 40. If you get a used one, you can get it for as low as low 30s, and remember kia's amazing warranty.

Honestly. If you don't get the GT, there's no point in getting the stinger. Because for a 4 banger turbo, you could get other cars that might be better. Unless you want that AWD.

Yeah the one I was looking at was around 47k AUD, (6k more than the 2.0L one) but if was yellow and just sold. So now I have to wait for another one to come on the market. I'm hoping for one with that dark grey colour they do

If you can swing the tt Kia, seems like a more enjoyable driving experience to me. If youre going with a 4 banger then arteon. But I haven’t driven either of them, just going off looks and specs. Ha always been a fan of Australia having utes. Do you see them often?

always been suspicious of kias ridiculously long warranty period. It begs the question: Are they selling you a well made car that they can throw that warranty at no worries, or are you just paying for a really good warranty and getting a mediocre car?

looking a little deeper into how warranties are normally calculated, we can see what kia is really up to.

All components in a car initially have a decreasing failure rate, basically the longer a car has been run the more reliable it is (~0-30k miles) since manufacturing defects would show themselves early on. This period is what warranties are intended to cover.

Next comes a period of constant failure rate where failures are very rare and essentially random, usually due to user error, so no real benefit for a warranty in this period, the probability of failure is at a minimum. Later, (I suspect for kias) at ~100k miles, you have whats known as increasing failure rate, parts have worn out and start to fail at an increasing rate, just about the time when the warranty expires.

You are paying for a warranty that covers the period of very low constant failure rate, completely unnecessary and designed to make the uneducated think they are getting a great deal.

Perfect example of why Kia would be the better choice. It’s going to take him 15+ years to drive 100k mi and if they are confident of its parts not failing until around 100k, he will have a fun vehicle for years to come without worrying. Both cars are going to be fully depreciated by the time they are 10 years old with 100k+ km. Yeah but where else are you getting a new ttv6 for that price?

    an f150 :P

warranty is only 7 years, so he wont see 100k anyway, so the warranty is even less of a factor. Which is the point of my post: don't let the warranty be a deciding factor. 99% chance both cars will make it 7 years ~60k miles without any out of warranty issues.

"New" kias haven't been around long enough to see how they hold up after the warranty expires, that that is a mark against Kia for uncertainty.

True, warranty shouldn’t be a factor. IMO any new car these days should make it well past 7 years ~60k miles. Was curious what an f150 went for over ther and holy chit. I’m seeing 2012s starting at 80k that don’t have a ton of miles, that’s unreal

yeah I seriously doubt the build quality of the kia is anywhere close to the GermanChad built Arteon, that thing is basically a rebadged Audi/Porsche level of quality. OP will probably figure that out when he checks out both in person

Idk man. Kia's interior is 1B and the performance is 1A amongst what everyone talks about when talking about the stinger GT.

I sat inside one of them and it's pretty phucking nice.

Plus, i would trust owning a kia with it's warranty vs a vdub and their warranty.

I have a Stinger, my wife has a fully loaded new Tiguan, and I was looking at the Arteon, the Stinger is much better quality than any VW, except maybe the Touareg, and they don't sell that in the US anymore. The performance is also not even close. The Arteon is for $50k, what the base Stinger is for $30k.

Every one of my colleagues laughed at me buying a Kia, especially a Kia that costs $55k. They laughed until they saw it in person, after which they were very impressed. My wife drove a 2016 Q3, I was gonna pick up an S5 SB, but after looking at the Stinger, the S5 didn't make sense, and the RS5 was nearly 50k more than the fully loaded Stinger. I got the Stinger, then she said she didn't want to be driving a luxury brand unless I was driving one too, so she got the Tiguan. The more she drives the Tiguan, the more she admits that she should have gotten another Audi. VW interior is nowhere near as nice as Audi, whereas the Stinger is just as nice as any A4, A5 or A6.

Only reason why i didn't get the stinger GT. Honestly i couldn't care less about what people think about the cars i buy, but to hear a comment like that probably everyday, i would kill someone lol.

Believe it or not, the stinger GT was in my list of 5 of next daily drivers. I was really considering it. I went to check it out the day my brother was checking out the sorento. I almost signed the papers, although didn't test drive because they didn't have a GT for rest drive, just the 4 banger. But i got to sit inside and start that one up etc. It was phucking incredible for a kia. But we still don't know the longevity of those cars. We can only bank on the car reviews that do those long term testing.

Ended up with the "less refined" charger scat pack. I fell in love once i drove that lol. Pretty sure i would have loved the stinger GT more if i got to test drive it. But i picked the charger.

    Because 392 hemi lol
