Gaining fat fast after switching up

    Hi

Wondered if one of you fine gentleman can help.

For years I’ve been gym lazy; doing 2 sessions a week, just ****ing about. Going to Ibiza next year and want to have a holiday where I don’t think everyone in the world is checking out the moobs.

Switched up to an elite workout from Jefit, 4 days a week and volume. It’s been insanely hard and gruelling, but brilliant at the same time.

5 weeks in and there’s been little muscle growth (knew this would be the case, because I’ve already got the newb gains). There’s been some definition improvement in the arms, shoulders and chest, but...

FAT GAIN!!! Not muscle but fat. My diets on point during the week, not so much at the weekend; but it’s always been that way, so it’s the new routine that’s caused the fat gain.

Trousers getting tighter (round the waist) and the belly is growing.

I can’t find anything like this online. Is it possible that I’m getting newb gains in my core from abs and squats, which is pushing out the fat that I already have?

    Appreciate your ideas!!

We need the details. How much weight did you gain? Over what period of time? What's your calorie intake? Weight? Height? Age?

OK, that is too fast although I imagine most of it was in the first week? (mostly bloating / water retention)

At 95kg, I'm doubtful that you should be gaining weight at all. You can probably maintain or even lose fat slowly and still make muscle gains.

When you next come to gain mass, aim for slow mass gain, certainly no more than 1kg in a month. Just adjust your calorie intake until you're achieving that.

    Thanks buddy.

Yeah you’re right, most was in the first 1-2 weeks; it came on very rapidly, mostly sitting around the core.

Just didn’t know wether I should do an extreme cut, but I feel if I cut during the week anymore I’d have 0 energy for the gym sessions.

Most of my calorie intake is protein, so I was hoping it wouldn’t be fat gain!

A lot of it will be water because fat doesn't come (or go) rapidly.

Not sure what you mean by cutting during the week. I though you were in a calorie surplus? You can't swing quickly between cutting bulking, you need to sustain a surplus for bulking or a deficit for cutting over a good long period of time.

Unfortunately, a high protein intake is no guarantee that you won't put on fat if your overall calories are too high. They should really be no more than 300 above maintenance.

I’ll stick with what I’m doing for a few more weeks then. Thanks mate, you’ve been brilliant.

Have your lifts been improving? If you're getting stronger and gaining weight, you are most likely gaining at least SOME muscle...
