    Investing in Mj businesses

What do you guys think of it? Do you think someone can get a fair stake buying in or does one have to start from the ground up.

It is a stupid move because the money can't be ran through typical bank channels.

You also have the risk of your assets being seized by the feds at any point. Safer to just deal like you did in HS.

Trends. Will weed be big in the future? Imagine they legalize it and it’s like holland here? Now may be your time to buy in.

I have maybe $500 in ACB. Peanuts. But hey, you never know what the future holds.

Important thing is to recognize trends while the price is still low.

Who would’ve thought phones/computers (Apple) would be a tbing?

Who would’ve thought buy stuff online (amazon) would’ve been a tbing?

I’d just keep some play money in it

To be fair to you I haven't researched this in depth since 2014, BUT we had an in depth project on this in one of my upper division finance courses and I would wager that information is still mostly valid today.

THERE IS SUBSTANTIAL RISK. If you are being properly compensated for that risk by all means.

The problem is you aren't. The beta of most cannabis stocks is north of 3. The ROI is a small tick above market returns... However, if you are okay with that volatility why don't you just invest in a leveraged total market fund? The expected ROI is higher with less variance.

It is possible that the cannabis industry has a negative R^2 with your portfolio and thus may still provide value, but that hasn't been tested through a market correction yet.

I don't disagree with your analysis. Just the part where they don't have access to banks and feds are likely to swoop in and destroy the companies. They do in fact have bank access assuming other legal states are like Colorado. When you go to a pot shop in Colorado you can pay with a card and there are like 12 or 15 institutions that work with pot retailers. If feds move to destroy pot businesses there would be hell to pay on many levels. Its time to just legalize it already.

They also need to fix taxation of weed since they have made legal weed more expensive than the chit mexican gangs are driving across the border, but that's another issue entirely.
