Wanna build my first PC, $1500 budget.

Looking to build my first gaming PC. Keep in mind I've never built a computer before so don't wanna get a parts list that has compatibility issues or other confusing things.

Games I'll be playing on it: ARPGS like Diablo 2, 3, and 4 when it comes out, Path of Exile, Grim Dawn. Some FPS shooters like CS:GO. Want to be able to play on max settings. Heard from a streamer that some of the newer AMDs have trouble running some of the older ARPGs like POE and D3 so I think I'd like to go with intel.

Might want to stream on twitch at some point so something that could handle that fine.

With the $1500 budget I want everything except mouse, keyboard and monitor. I need an operating system also, not just the computer. Does that put my budget on the low end?

    Reps for helpful responses.

$1,500 will get you a fairly high end PC. Not the bet of the best, but a damn solid system.
Never heard of the AMD thing before, but if you're building a PC right now and not using an AMD CPU, you're fuking up pretty hugely. Their performance to price ratio absolute obliterates Intel. Sounds like people not knowing wtf they're doing or talking about. My AMD CPU based system plays Diablo 3 perfectly fine.

I left case empty (too preferential) and software empty as some people buy keys from Ebay (personally I'd rather just pay the measly $100 for windows 10)

Depends, in OP's price range he could get a 9700x which has been on sale at $300 and would be faster in games than the 3700x at the same price.

So why wait after all the insane deals from Black Friday and before? Lmao bad timing if you ask me, Intel had the i9’s at an insane price too. But can’t snooze on computer part sales

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tpjqRk

If you’re not overclocking that cooler for the cpu should be more then fine. I didn’t pick a case but this setup should do just fine for what you need, with that MoBo you’ll need a WiFi adapter but this is pretty much my set up and I run 1440p 144hz with absolute ease csgo I average 280 FPS and Battlefield an easy 150+ All on high. Highly VERY highly recommend a 1440 monitor maybe get the 2060 super to compensate for the price of the monitor but it’s so worth it. You can get windows off a boot drive USB you’ll just have that stupid watermark but if you can live with it then it’s free99. Amd is great but intel for the moment still has the lead but like I said earlier you really missed out on some good deals for CPUs

It performs so marginally better that it's not even worth how much the 3700X destroys the 9700 in absolutely every other category other than gaming. For gaming, the 9700 outperforms the 3700X by like 6% in the best of cases. lol
For multi thread programs, the 3700X beats out the 9700 by as much as 15+% in some things. If OP ever wanted to get into photo or video editing, etc, the AMD processor would be a way better choice.

Edit: I also don't know where you're seeing 9700's on sale for $300, but I guess it's still besides the point anyway.

For a lot of people, gaming is the most demanding thing they do. Why wouldnt he get the CPU that performs best for the purpose he is building the machine? Why would he get a CPU that performs worse in gaming on the chance that he MAY decide to use the computer for other tasks?

Give up a measly 6% performance (and in some games, it's less than 6%...) to gain 15+% in other things that are a high possibility? More and more people are getting into editing, etc. It's not far fetched that he may get into that some day.

9700 also will need a CPU cooler bought separately, where as the 3700X comes with a VERY good air cooler already. Again, more money for a tiny amount of added performance in -ONE- area.

My advice honestly is wait 6-9 months. 7nm Intel Desktop CPUs and 7nm NVIDIA GPUs should be out around Summer / Winter. In fact, given the current state of the gaming generation, may as well even wait until next Winter, since that's around when the PS5 and next Xbox will be coming out as well.

Otherwise I'd say try to build your own using pcpartpicker, or if you're lazy you can have one pre-built by ibuypower or something similar. Components I'd go for are either the RTX 2060 SUPER / RTX 2070 / RTX 2070 SUPER for the GPU. And for the CPU I'd go with either a Ryzen 9 3900x, or an i7-9700k. Get a Motherboard that has a M.2 slot and supports the CPU you have in mind, up to you what features you need it to have (WiFi? Extra Storage? Extra PCI-E lanes?). Then I'd go 32GB DDR4 RAM, probably 16GBx2. And try to find a powersupply that is AT LEAST silver standard and has 800+ Watts, up to you if you want it to be modular. For storage make sure you have a M.2 nVME SSD that's like 250GB or more, and maybe a side SATA III SSD that's 1TB. Also don't cheap out on your CPU cooler, get an afterstock Corsair Hydro series, and some custom thermal paste. Depending on the GPU and CPU you select, and how crazy you get with the motherboard / CPU cooler / powersupply, you should be golden. Even better if you already have a desktop case, and the peripherals (mouse, keyboard, headset, monitors, etc.).

Like I said though if $1500 is your budget, I'd personally just wait until next year for the next CPU and GPU die shrinks, and by then you'll maybe have a larger budget as well.

Thanks for all the input so far guys. Yes, I definitely goofed by not taking advantage of black Friday. I worked everyday that week except thanksgiving so I really didn't have much time to put any thought or research into it. I have some time off this coming week so that's why I'm just now getting the ball rolling.

It's not that the games didn't play fine most the time, his issue was that they would just randomly crash and he narrowed the problem down to being the AMD he uses. Looking at his streaming setup it looks like it's a AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X.

I've read a few threads like this in the past where people say they don't want to bother with having to assemble everything themselves, and the other posters always convince him otherwise that it's always cheaper to get the parts yourself and assemble it for a better deal. I've never built a PC before and am sure I could figure it out but I also wouldn't mind just skipping the headache and buying something preassembled. Is there anything in the $1500 price range from somewhere like ibuypower or the newegg link posted above that is generally comparable to if you assembled it yourself?

Like I said though if $1500 is your budget, I'd personally just wait until next year for the next CPU and GPU die shrinks, and by then you'll maybe have a larger budget as well.
this. The next MAJOR iteration is next year.

Also I wouldn't mind building it if I had a step-by-step youtube tutorial like this one:

    any thoughts on that build?

ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8GB Graphics Card
    Intel Core i7 9700K Processor
NZXT Kraken X52 240mm AIO Liquid Cooler
Gigabyte Z390 I AORUS PRO WiFi Mini-ITX Gaming Motherboard
    Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 RAM 3200
Corsair CX 650M 80+ Bronze Power Supply
    Samsung 970 EVO 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD
    NZXT H210 Mini-ITX Computer Case

Or is he likely just pimping stuff that he's sponsored by?

noob question - is there an easy way to disable those dumb LED lights in the front of the case? Don't want that chit keeping me up at night while downloading chit and the computers still running.

On the LEDs most likely yes I’m just not sure how they wired all that up

On that build I don’t trust Zotac at all. Their customer service is hot garbage I’ve heard that people wait weeks on weeks to even hear back on a replacement under warranty. But the other stuff looks fine

The issue is, since we're at the cusp of a transition to smaller die sizes for the CPU, if someone were to buy a new motherboard and CPU configuration now, they'll find that the next gen (and beyond) CPUs will not be compatible with their motherboards.

yeah the real value is buying at socket release honestly. 10th gen i7 desktop CPUs will be coming out and and might have something out as well.

go with an amd b450 motherboard, ryzen 3700x cpu, 16gb of pc3200 or pc3600 ram, 500gb-1tb nvme ssd drive, something like a geforce 2070, 2070 super, or amd radeon 5700 xt video card (all of these are a good choice, though radeon might have buggy drivers at times), and a 650-750w power supply. i think everything else isn't gonna matter that much. for os get windows 10 pro.

Dawg... don't wait if you want to ball out. I build a comp with a 1080ti, which was top tier at the time, and a couple years later it still balls and I have no motivation to upgrade to a 2080ti. Even my ****ty.. I don't know, whatever it was i5 processor and mobo are still fine. You'll never get "best of the best" because ****'s always coming out, and if you dump too much into it you'll -always- look back and say "why". Just buy something good within reason.

Honestly, tho, I love my monitor more than my other chit. Get a good current graphics card (2080?) and cpu (i5 just for gaming) and get a good monitor with the money you save trying to max out everything else.

Could drop the SSD down to 500 GB. Save $42 at that point. $65 for 500 GB (amazon). I did this myself.

Otherwise everything else checks out just fine and the 1 TB SSD vs 500 GB SSD is more or so just a personal decision.

I did this myself and I really enjoy it.

I got the Ryzen 3700X for 4k video editing.
I also got a 2080 TI myself for 4k gaming.

4k video editing and 4k gaming build. Built it like 3 months ago or so. Month after everything was released (waiting on Ryzen 3000 series myself).

This hybrid build worked perfectly for me. I also recommend it (don't have to do 4k obviously could just be 2k or 1080p if not 2.5k or 1440p for that matter) since somewhere down the road it may happen that OP might want to get into some type of video editing, but it's always OPs decision to change out the CPU / Motherboard to as well if not the RAM as well.

Could go with DDR4-3200 for the RAM as well I missed that before, but I think I missed it since that price wasn't bad or anything. It would only be $10-$15 at most I'd think for a price difference.

Last night I said fuk it and pulled the trigger on a build through NZXT. Basically you can configure a rig with them and they build it for you for $100. This seemed like a good option for me because I work all the time and I'd rather pay someone to do grunt work for me and save me the hassle. Yes I'm sure I could of figured it all out fine and it would of been a good learning experience, but this is my first real gaming PC and I just wanna plug and play at this point. Here's what I ended up getting, taking into consideration the suggestions made ITT:

    Case: NZXT H510 $70
    CPU:AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core 3.6GH $330
    Cooling: NZXT Kraken X52 $120
Motherboard: MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI $210
Video Card: MSI GeForce RTX™ 2070 SUPER VENTUS OC $500
    Memory: G. Skill TridentZ RGB 16GB 3600MHz $120
    Storage: Intel 660p $110
Power: Seasonic Focus GX 750W Gold $120
OS Microsoft Windows 10 Home $120
    building it $99

    Total: $1849

Yes, this is over the $1500 budget I had initially set forth but that wasn't set in stone. I looked up all the parts individually and they were more or less the same, I guess I could of saved $30 on the ryzen 7 had I got it on my own. Besides that I could of saved $220 by building it myself and downloading windows on a flash drive, but fuk it I'm fine paying the premium and having everything ready to go. Only thing I didn't do is get a second storage drive like people recommended but I figure I can always add that in the future if I need to.

This rig is probably complete fukin overkill for what I'll be using it for but I haven't bought a new computer since 2009 and I'm sure I'll be happy with it for it's intended purpose and should last me a long time.

Now I just need to figure out a good monitor to get. Suggestions????

What's your price point? Don't do 1920x1080 since you got a 2070 and a decent one to. I'd go 2.5k or 1440p at that point. Also I don't recommend to go with 4k or 2160p. Basically 2k (1080p) is too little for that card and 4k (2160p) is probably too much. I'd go with 2.5k or 1440p no matter what at least and avoid 4k completely.

    I'd suggest something like this.

Could have built it yourself for cheaper, but will be a nice rig.
