Don't know what to do with my life?

    Hi,

    Failed Environmental Engineer here.

Studied in Finland and realize years after I graduate that so far my degree has been useless. The reason I hate it is because I had zero success with it. I envy people who are skilled. Maybe financial analyst, I went to an Engineering office who asked if I know CAD(lol...ofcourse not, we didnt study that) but he had so many beautiful drawings and I wished to know that.

I'm intersted in many things and that is the problem...love math, love physics, love computers, love electronics, love animations, love web desing, love soldering, welding , all practical and brainy stuff. And that is the problem, if it is up to me I want to be good at all of them. With youtube I keep learning many things but I still am not practical, and problem 2 is that I'm old and unemployed.

I would say I'm average intelligence, my strength is that I really enjoy learning and studying but I dont excel at anything. If I could get a nice fullfilling job with my degree I would be more than content but so far it has been utterly useless and every employer I go to ask for a skill that I lack or didnt study(Design something, programing, more advanced statistics etc...)

Forgot many things and trying to catch up, getting stressed, my life is a mess, financial problems, hurting my relationship, embarssed to look into my dad' eyes.

I dont know who to approach...Hard to get confidence if you are lacking in skills, and Finland doesnt make this things easy, their bureucracy is ****. They always want you to study first, well I did and it didnt work...THey prefar to give unemplyment benefits than actually find a practical solution to you.

Being skilless and unconfident absolutely freakin suks.

Just lol, get it together man.

If you like welding, get into the trades, you’ll make decent money and feel like you’ve done something.

Like a billion times, I know it is annoying and I did delete one today which is a step in the right direction.

BUt, the things is I have been approaching many companies and it is the same God damn thing. THe ask for skills that we didnt learn at the Uni. Why did I agree on that is beyond me.

I'm just petrified of opportunity costs, time and etc...

I like so many things and that is the problem. To me, I want to know which things has a good future and that I like at the sametime and the scarieest part is (THat I actually can be good at)

    But you pay good attention.

I dont give up easily, but I cant focus because I like so many things and I'm getting a mental burn out and becoming anxious from studying alone online. Uni now scares me, because I studied 9 years, got masters and BSc. and every employer I go meet in person ask for skills that I dont have or best case scenarios I dont have the experince. So, is it worth studying again. I dont know are my abilities or how good I'm.

But I'm reading MArk Manson book in the mean while, helping a bit.

I rent furnished houses to guys doing trades (welders, boilermakers, pipefitters) at a refinery. Sometimes I have to cash their checks in order to get my rent money. They make about $2000/week or more.

Dude you're 35. No one fuking knows what they want to do in life. They just pick something with a promising career at the end of it that hopefully they will enjoy and fuking go after it. You have been sold a fairy tale of some perfect job that fits you perfectly that doesn't fuking exist. That is what hobbies are for.

Weird thought but how about using your free time towards learning said skills that you lack? Lord.

I'm nearly 30 and i've got no idea "what iwant to do in life" but at least I have a career job/career because I bothered learning some Sql and database management, chit that I never learned from my marketing degree.

    Read Range by David Epstein.
You sound like a generalist. Which is fine. Embrace it and create original ideas that serve people with your current favourite focus

Also stop being a victim and learn some skills. Read a book a day on a topic.

If you’ve got time, then do that.

Go to a library, find which topic pulls you the most, and read about it.

    Then type a summary.

Upload your daily summaries online. This will give you purpose.

A lady I saw online wanted to learn to code. She had no idea how to do said coding. But set herself a challenge to upload 180 websites with fresh coding in 180 days.

She sucked at the start - but now she is a boss (literally and figuratively)

I know it sucks and it’s extremely painful not knowing what you want (while also thinking EVERYONE has their life together) but bro...they don’t.

Everyone is mostly just winging it until they start to see little tiny glimmers of hope along the way.

The brave follow these lights, and continue toward their central desire.

    The cowards ignore them.

If you’re in a crappy position now, really, what have you got to lose besides taking your life by the balls and designing it (rather than waiting for someone to always tell you what to do).

    Be a director - not a spectator.
